GROUP 3- CAPSTONE REVIEWER
Problem and Importance: The project aims to solve the issue of poor ventilation and heat
buildup in the canteen, creating a more comfortable environment for students and staff. This is
important as it can improve health, productivity, and overall well-being.
Inspiration/ What motivated us to conduct this study: The project was inspired by the need
to address the uncomfortable canteen environment, as we students also exprerience the poor
ventilation, and heat build ups particularly during peak hours, as well as to promote
sustainability.
Objectives: The objectives were to design and implement a solar-powered exhaust fan,
improve air circulation, and reduce heat buildup. These objectives were achieved, as the project
successfully provided a comfortable environment and reduced reliance on traditional electricity.
Difference/Uniqueness: The ECO-BREEZE project is different as it utilizes solar energy, is
cost-effective, and specifically designed for the canteen environment, making it a unique and
sustainable solution.
Methodology: The project used a simple and practical approach, through interviews and
observations (QUALITATIVE)
Challenges: Initial challenges included sourcing materials and testing the system's
effectiveness. (Annabel)
Limitations: The project's limitations include dependence on sunlight and potential scalability
issues for the canteen of SJAVPA. (Jiana)
Testing and Evaluation: The project's effectiveness was tested by monitoring temperature
changes and gathering feedback from users, showing positive results. (Assumption lang to)
Intended Users/Significance: The beneficiaries are students, teachers, and staff at St. John
Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, particularly those using the canteen.
Improvements: With more resources, improvements could include increasing the fan's power,
adding more solar panels, and implementing smart controls for the temperature to optimize
performance.
Scalability and Sustainability: The project is scalable and sustainable as it uses renewable
energy, recycled materials and reduces electricity costs, and can be replicated in other areas.
Contribution to Field: The project contributes to the field of renewable energy and sustainable
design, showcasing practical applications of solar power, especially in school.
Ethical Considerations: The project addressed environmental and social responsibility by
promoting eco-friendly technology and ensuring accessibility. We also considered the students'
own experience, the problem our school wanted to solve, health concerns, observation, as well
as the size of the canteen.
Weakest Point: The project's weakest point could be its reliance on sunlight, which may not be
consistent, affecting performance during cloudy periods. (pero idedefend naman to ni Ivan). We
do not have a weak point, DEFEND OUR PROJECT AMAP
INNOVATION
1. Localized Solution: Tailoring the design to fit the local climate (humid, tropical weather)
and specific needs (school canteen) makes it innovative in its approach.
2. Sustainable Technology: Using solar power reduces reliance on traditional electricity,
aligning with global sustainability goals and making it a green solution.
3. Practical Implementation: The focus on using locally sourced materials (like wood) and
adapting designs for 6u in the local environment shows innovation in execution.
4. Addressing Specific Needs: Targeting ventilation issues in a school setting, enhancing
comfort and health for students and staff, adds value and innovation to the project.
In essence, while the components (solar, fan) aren't new, the application, adaptation, and
context-specific design make Eco-Breeze innovative.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 3 AND 7
SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): Improves indoor air quality, reducing health risks
associated with poor ventilation, such as asthma and heat stress, because according to (WHO)
SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): Utilizes renewable solar energy, reducing reliance on
traditional electricity and promoting sustainable energy practices.
