Human Reproduction – Class 12 Biology Notes

1. Male Reproductive System

- Testes produce sperm and testosterone

- Scrotum maintains lower temperature

- Accessory ducts: Rete testis → Vasa efferentia → Epididymis → Vas deferens

- Glands: Seminal vesicles, Prostate, Bulbourethral

2. Female Reproductive System

- Ovaries produce ova and hormones

- Fallopian tube: fertilization site

- Uterus: implantation and development

- Cervix and Vagina

3. Gametogenesis

Spermatogenesis:

- Formation of sperm in testes

Oogenesis:

- Formation of ovum in ovaries

4. Menstrual Cycle (28 days)

- Menstrual Phase (1–5)

- Follicular Phase (6–13)

- Ovulation (14)

- Luteal Phase (15–28)

5. Fertilization

- Fusion of sperm and ovum → zygote

6. Implantation

- Blastocyst embeds in uterus

7. Pregnancy

- Placenta forms
- Hormone: hCG

8. Parturition

- Childbirth with oxytocin

9. Lactation

- Prolactin: milk production

- Oxytocin: milk ejection

Important:

- Semen = sperm + fluid

- Colostrum: first milk

- Gestation: 9 months
