Introduction
The IoT-Based Smart Elderly Health & Safety Monitoring
System is designed to monitor the health condition and
safety of elderly people in real-time using sensors and
internet connectivity.
This system continuously monitors:
Heart rate
Body temperature
Fall detection
Gas leakage
Emergency button alert
If any abnormal condition is detected, an alert message is
sent to caregivers through GSM/WiFi.
Problem Statement
Elderly people living alone face
health and safety risks.
Delayed medical response can be
dangerous.
Continuous monitoring by family is
not always possible.
Need for a low-cost and reliable
monitoring system.
Objectives
To monitor vital health parameters in real-time.
To detect falls and emergencies.
To send automatic alerts to caregivers.
To provide a low-cost and easy-to-use solution.
To increase elderly independence and safety.
Components Required
Hardware:
Arduino Uno
ESP8266 WiFi Module / GSM Module
Pulse Sensor
LM35 Temperature Sensor
MPU6050 (Accelerometer for fall detection)
Gas Sensor (MQ2)
Buzzer
LCD Display (16x2) Software:
Push Button (Emergency switch) Arduino IDE
Power Supply IoT Platform (ThingSpeak / Blynk)
System Architecture
Working Flow:
Sensors → Arduino Uno → WiFi/GSM → Cloud/App → Caregiver
The sensors collect health data.
Arduino processes data.
If abnormal values are detected, alert is sent via IoT platform.
Working Principle
Sensors monitor health parameters continuously.
Arduino processes the data.
If abnormal value is detected, alert is generated.
Notification is sent to caregiver via WiFi/GSM.
Features & Advantages
Features:
