Boxing
Boxing is one of the oldest and most popular sports in the world.
It is a combat sport where two athletes fight each other using only their fists.
Boxers wear special gloves and compete inside a square ring.
The main goal of boxing is to score more points than the opponent or to win by a knockout.
A boxing match is divided into rounds. Each round usually lasts three minutes,
and there is a one-minute rest between rounds. During the fight, boxers try to hit
their opponent while also protecting themselves. A boxer can win in different ways.
One way is by knockout (KO), when the opponent falls down and cannot stand up within ten
seconds.
Another way is by technical knockout (TKO), when the referee stops the fight because one
boxer
cannot safely continue. If no one is knocked out, judges decide the winner by counting
points.
There are four main punches in boxing. The jab is a quick straight punch with the front
hand.
The cross is a strong straight punch with the back hand. The hook is a punch thrown in a
circular motion,
usually aimed at the side of the head or body. The uppercut is an upward punch, often used
at close distance.
Besides punching, boxers must have good footwork, speed, strength, and defense skills like
blocking and dodging.
There are different types of boxing. Amateur boxing is often seen in the Olympic Games and
focuses more on technique and points.
Professional boxing usually has more rounds and stronger physical contact.
Women’s boxing is also very popular today and continues to grow around the world.
Boxing has many benefits. It improves physical fitness, builds strength and endurance,
develops discipline, and increases confidence. Many famous boxers, such as Muhammad Ali,
Mike Tyson, and Floyd Mayweather, are known all over the world.
