Read each case carefully and answer the sub-questions.
Case Study 1 (Q32) — The School Garden [Ch. 3 & Ch. 9]
The school garden is in the shape of a quadrilateral ABCD where AB = 12 m, BC = 8 m, CD = 12 m, DA =
8 m, and all angles are right angles. The gardener wants to plant flowers along the boundary and also
grow a vegetable patch in a square portion of side (2x + 3) metres inside the garden. The perimeter of the
vegetable patch equals 40 m.
(i) Name the shape of the school garden and write any two properties of this shape. (1 mark)
(ii) Find the perimeter and area of the school garden. (1 mark)
(iii) Set up an equation and find the value of x for the vegetable patch. (1 mark)
(iv) Find the area of the vegetable patch using the value of x found above. (1 mark)
Case Study 2 (Q33) — The Science Exhibition [Ch. 10 & Ch. 12]
Students of Class 8 built a 3D model for their science exhibition. Their model consists of a cube of edge 5
cm placed on top of a cuboid measuring 10 cm × 8 cm × 6 cm. While preparing the write-up, they noted
that the distance from Earth to the Moon is approximately 384,000 km and the size of a red blood cell is
about 0.000008 m.
(i) Apply Euler's formula to verify the faces, edges, and vertices of the cuboid. (1 mark)
(ii) Find the total surface area of the cuboid (in cm²). (1 mark)
(iii) Express the distance from Earth to the Moon in standard form. (1 mark)
(iv) Express the size of a red blood cell in standard form. (1 mark)
Case Study 3 (Q34) — The Market Trip [Ch. 8 & Ch. 13]
Meena and her mother went to the market. The market was selling a jacket for ■1,500 with a discount of
20% and GST of 12% applicable on the discounted price. They also noticed that the price of 6 kg of rice is
■240. Meena recalled that 15 workers had finished laying tiles in a courtyard in 12 days.
(i) Find the selling price of the jacket after applying the discount. (1 mark)
(ii) Calculate the final price of the jacket after adding GST. (1 mark)
(iii) Find the price of 9 kg of rice using direct proportion. (1 mark)
(iv) How many workers are needed to complete the same tile work in 9 days? (1 mark)

(iii) A separate bus was also hired; 12 workers could wash all the buses in 10 hours. How many workers
