Methods

The study focuses on enhancing the numeracy skills of ten Grade 6 learners struggling with fractions through direct instruction. Data will be collected via pre-tests, weekly assessments, and observations to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The results will be shared with educators and parents, and presented at a research conference for broader dissemination.

IV. METHODOLOGY

A. Participants and/or Other Data Source Information

The ten Grade 6 learners of Diatagon Barangay Central Elementary School

whose having difficulty in solving fractions using the four fundamental
operations are the subjects of the study. Their low performance is identified after
the conduct of summative test by their adviser and it is determined that ten out of 3
thirty learners are having difficulty in solving fractions using the four fundamental
operations. The researcher choose these twelve learners as the subject as they
failed the summative test.

B. Data Gathering Methods

In gathering the data, the researchers insure that they have an approval letter from
North Eastern Mindanao State University- Lianga campus as well as a letter of
permission will be handed to the school principal of Diatagon Barangay Central
Elementary School (DBCES), to the Grade 6 adviser and to the parents of the
subject. The researchers ask the Grade 6 adviser of the list of the learners who has
difficulty in solving fractions using four fundamental operations. The researchers
used 20 items pre-test adapted from the grade 6 adviser as the research
instruments.

After gathering the result, the researchers conducted the intervention in which
include the direct instruction of the researchers and the participants. The intervention
will be conducted twice a week. The researcher will also conducted an assessment
every week to ensure that the intervention is effective.

[Link] Analysis Plan

The recorded raw scores using summative tools before, during, and after
the intervention will be tabulated, graphed, and analyzed quantitatively by the
researcher. This will serve as the main measure of the effectiveness of the use of
direct instruction in enhancing the numeracy skills of the learners specifically in
solving fractions using four fundamental operations.
However, the weekly assessment to the selected participants
will be utilized in getting feedback as to the appropriateness of the intervention in
addressing the problem. The responses also during the assessment will be further
used in the discussion of the final analysis of the study. The data gathered
through observation and assessment using the designed observation tool and
observation checklist shall be also part of the progress monitoring of the intervention.
The data will give the researcher a grasp of the effect of the intervention while the
study is in process. This will also lead to some adjustments to the
implementation of the intervention, whenever necessary.

All the data gathered during observation and assessment during the intervention will
be compared and triangulated to surface the holistic effect
of the intervention on the numeracy skills of the participants, their
classroom behavior as well as the effect of the intervention on the well
being of the participants.

VI. Plans for Dissemination and Utilization

The result of the study will be shared to the Grade 6 adviser, fellow teachers, school
principal and parents during parent-teacher conference. Furthermore, the researcher
will present the result showing how direct instruction helps the numeracy skills of the
learners specifically in fractions with four fundamental operations in a research
conference and publish it in a reliable journal.
