SSC STUDY ROUTINE

Beginner to Advanced | CGL, CHSL, MTS, CPO, JE, Steno

A comprehensive guide to mastering the SSC syllabus from Day 1 to Final Selection.

Introduction
This guide walks you through exactly how to study for SSC exams from Day 1 when you are just
starting, all the way to the final stage when you are doing 3–4 mocks per week. Every section is
explained in simple language to remove confusion about what to do, when to do it, and how much
time to spend.

Your Ideal Daily Study Structure

A good study day is divided into three ’shifts’. Each shift has a specific purpose.

Time of Day Duration

What to Study Why this order?

Morning (6 AM - 10 AM) Maths + Reasoning 3–4 Hours Brain is freshest; needs max
concentration.
Afternoon (1 PM - 4 PM) GK / Current Affairs + Revi- 2 Hours Energy dips; GK is mostly
sion reading/memorizing.
Evening (6 PM - 9 PM) Practice (PYQs) + Analysis 2–3 Hours Apply what you learned;
build exam speed.

Day Focus
What to do

Monday New Concept Pick 1 new topic from Maths/Reasoning. Study from basics to ad-
vanced.
Tuesday Strengthen Revise Monday’s topic (15 min), then solve 40 related questions.
Wednesday Concept + GK New English Grammar topic or Math chapter + History/Polity ses-
sion.
Thursday Mixed Practice Solve questions from multiple subjects in one timed session.
Friday Weak Areas Go back to topics where you made errors this week. Re-solve those
questions.
Saturday Full Mock Attempt 1 Full Mock test under real exam conditions + Analysis.
Sunday Rest + Revise Light revision of the entire week. Review your Error Notebook.

Subject-Wise Strategy
Quantitative Aptitude (Maths)
• Stage 1: Basics Start with Number System, Percentage, and Ratio. Use NCERT if weak.

• Stage 2: Speed Practice the same question type 20–30 times to solve under 60 seconds.

• Stage 3: PYQs Solve previous year questions from the last 5–10 years for every chapter.

• Rule: Pick one good resource and finish it 3 times. Don’t keep switching books.

English Language
• Vocab: Learn 10 new words daily with synonyms/antonyms. Use them in sentences.

• Grammar: Prioritize Subject-Verb Agreement, Tenses, Articles, and Prepositions.

• Reading: Read one editorial daily (The Hindu/Indian Express) for RC and Cloze Test speed.

Reasoning
• Practice: Solve 25–40 mixed questions daily. Pattern recognition is key.

• Speed: Target solving 25 questions in 15–18 minutes.

• Tricks: Learn standard shortcuts for Blood Relations, Syllogisms, and Coding-Decoding.

General Awareness (GK)

• Static GK: Focus on History, Polity, Geography, and Science (Lucent’s GK is best).

• Current Affairs: Cover the last 6 months using monthly magazines or reputable apps.

• Time: 30–45 minutes daily is enough. Consistency matters more than long hours here.

Level-Wise Roadmap

Level Mocks
Who is this? Milestone to move up

Beginner Starting out; basics not clear. 1 / week Concept clarity; 60–70% accu-
racy.
Intermediate Concepts clear; speed is low. 2 / week High speed; 85%+ accuracy in
practice.
Advanced Exam-ready; needs peak scores. 3–4 / week Consistent top scores in Full
Mock tests.

The Golden Rules of SSC Preparation

1. Mocks Beat Theory: Theory tells you what to study; mocks tell you if you learned it.

2. The Error Notebook: Maintain a separate notebook for every single mistake. Revise it twice a
week.

3. Spaced Repetition: Revise a topic on Day 1, 3, 7, and 21 to ensure it moves to long-term mem-
ory.

4. Consistency > Intensity: 6 hours daily for 6 months beats 12 hours daily for 2 months (burnout).

5. Resource Minimalism: One book per subject, finished 3 times, is better than 5 books once.
