PUBLIC COMMUNICATION
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
1. Differentiate related terminology and vocabulary.
2. Create a clear, coherent, and persuasive speech
3. Present ideas persuasively using appropriate language registers, tone,
facial expressions, and gestures.
Introduction
It may not be your first time to do a speech because you have done this during
your senior years. However, you still feel some uncertainty – maybe even a bit of
intimidation- preparing and delivering your presentation again. Putting the speech
together, from beginning to end, is also a challenge even for native speakers. Where
do you begin? What topic will work best? What should I wear? Relax! I would not ask
you to deliver a speech at this point without first providing the necessary tools that you
will need to be successful as you move towards that oral presentation.
This module promotes effective public speaking by engaging students like you in
communicative situations, both formal and informal. The ability to speak English
effortlessly in various locations requires proper pronunciation, a wide range of
vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, and knowing what to address depending on the
audience and the place. Proficiency in public speaking includes knowledge of the
language and social and cultural norms and the ability to answer appropriately in
various situations. This module will be taken for two weeks. It contains a range of
activities to encourage you to speak effectively and with confidence. The designed
activities are shared experiences, to be done in individually through a recorded video.
This module will teach you useful skills for speaking in public through an explanation of
informative, persuasive, and narrative speeches. And to highlight skills learned, you will
present a two-minute "persuasive speech."
Lesson: WHAT IS PUBLIC COMMUNICATION?
Public Speaking is an organized manner of speaking intended to inform,
influence, or entertain the listeners. In the classification of "Intellectual and practical
skills," public speaking is listed as one of these core skills. It is not exceptionally
surprising because communication skills are analytical for intellectual development,
career path, and civic participation. Public speaking is universally relevant to all types of

majors and occupations and is seen by employers as a critical employability skill for job
seekers. No matter your ambitions and interests, developing speaking skills will benefit
your personal, professional, and public life.
Becoming good at speaking in public does not happen within the day. It requires
constant and correct practice, patience, and the ability to recognize ideas and
confidence in speaking.

Assessment
Now it’s time to check what you have learned from this module. Choose one from
the following topics below. Write a two-minute "persuasive speech". Use the prescribed
paper requirement format uploaded in the Google classroom.

Assignment
By this time, I know that you are ready to do your public speaking. And as you
prepare for the upcoming presentation, I would like to fully equip you by doing a simple
analysis of a speaker.

your guide. Put a check () or a cross (×) to analyze the speaker’s delivery in terms of
