Answer the following questions:


1. Write the observation for the evaporation of rainwater and ocean water, what can you conclude
from it?
Ans: Observation: When rainwater is evaporated, only few dust particles or no solids will be
observed in the beaker, where as when ocean water is evaporated concentric circles of salts will be
left behind in the beaker.

Conclusion: From the above observations we can conclude that ocean water has dissolved salts in
them and rain water is the purest natural form of water.

2. Differentiate between fog and mist.


Ans: Refer textbook page no-

Give reasons:

1. Glass bottle filled till the brim with water burst upon freezing.
Ans: Water contracts till 40 C and below which water starts expanding and density decreases.
At 00 C water freezes and forms ice. Hence if the glass bottles are filled till the brim, it can
burst due to the anomalous expansion of water.
2. Sugar powder dissolves in water faster that sugar cubes.
Ans: As the size of solute particles decreases the solubility is faster hence sugar powder
dissolves in water faster that sugar cubes.
3. When a sample of salt water was added with more amount of salt, it did not dissolve. But
the salt started dissolving upon heating the solution.
Ans: Upon heating saturated solution changes to unsaturated solution and can dissolve some
more salt into the solution.
