1/ Project Presentation:
The second community service project for the academic year 2025-2026 was a Black History
Month-themed event under the theme "Stronger Together: Honoring Heritage Through
Service." The event was a project for our class, which was held on Thursday, the 19th of
February, between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM on the school's premises.
As part of the preparations for the Black History Month event, the students of our class went
to other classes on Tuesday the 17th between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. We displayed posters
on Black history and important Black history personalities to raise awareness among the
school population. The objective of the project was to create a unique interactive educational
event for the whole school population, celebrating the contributions made by Black people to
culture, history, music, and society.
The project was fully executed by the students of our class under the supervision of our main
teacher and other supervisors. The project was divided into five stands, each executed by a
team of students. Every student in the class had a clearly defined role.

2/ Personal Description of Community Service:

The preparation for this project started a few days before the actual event took place. As a
class, we researched Black history, Black contributions, and Black legacies, so we could
come up with content for the stands and the posters. On Tuesday, the 17th, a few of our
classmates and I walked around the school, presenting our posters and giving a brief
introduction about Black History Month so that everyone would be informed and excited
before the actual event took place on Thursday.
On Thursday, the 19th, we put up five interactive stands at our school. The first stand we put
up was a quiz about famous Black history personalities. The second stand we put up was a
word search activity featuring well-known Black personalities. The third stand we put up was
a "Guess the Song and Artist" activity featuring famous Black musicians and artists. The
fourth stand we put up was a photo booth where everyone could take a photo with a fun and
festive background. And the fifth stand we put up was something that added a very personal
and reflective dimension to our Black History Month celebration: we conducted live
interviews with other students and participants at the event, conducted by two of my
classmates from our school. They asked other students and participants at the event
questions like who their favorite Black leader was, what Black history movement inspired
them the most, or who their favorite Black personality was.
My role during this event was to be in charge of all the activities, as well as ensure that
ribbons were given out to all the participants. This meant that I had to be at all the five
stands, ensure that all was well, assist all the students who might be in need, keep everyone
motivated, as well as ensure that there is a well-organized distribution of ribbons. It was a
role that I thoroughly enjoyed, as I got to be at the center of all that was going on. The two
hours passed so quickly, and there were a lot of students coming in to participate in all the
activities. The winners of all the activities were given candy as a prize, which made all the
activities have a bit of a competitive edge. The event was all so meaningful, and all the
preparation was all worth it, given all the positive feedback from all the students.

3/ Reflection (Report) and Learning Objectives:

a/ Learning Objective: Identify Strengths and Develop Areas for Improvement
This project has enabled me to recognize some of my personal strengths clearly. In my role
as the supervisor for all the activities, I had to be organized, attentive, and communicate
effectively at all times. I realized that I felt comfortable in my role. I enjoyed moving around
the stands, checking on the different groups, and making sure the participants had a good
experience. My ability to remain calm in a hectic environment and adapt quickly when
something was not going as planned was a strength for me during this event.
However, I realized my weaknesses too. Sometimes, when I had to attend to different stands
at the same time, I found it difficult to prioritize. There were instances when I stayed at one
stand for too long when the other stand was in dire need of my attention. In the future, I will
try to strategize my role as the supervisor. Perhaps I will try to organize a rotation system for
the stands so that they receive equal attention. I will also try to be more vocal in my
encouragement. I believe that the supervisors play a big part in the general atmosphere of
the event, and a more vibrant attitude will make a big difference.

b/ Learning Objective: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Met and That
They Have Led to New Skills
One of the biggest challenges that I personally had to overcome was that this type of event,
a school-wide educational fair with several different events happening at once, is not one
that I have ever had to organize or supervise before, and it is more complex than it seemed
like it would be during the planning stages.
Overcoming this particular challenge helped me learn a lot about myself and my own
abilities. I learned to become more skilled at multitasking and to have more awareness in
groups. I also learned to read a room and know when to intervene to help increase the level
of enthusiasm at a particular station or when to recognize that a particular station is having
trouble and help them out.
In addition to everything else that this project helped me learn, it also helped me learn more
about different cultures. By celebrating Black History Month and seeing just how interested
and excited the other students were during the interviews and quizzes, I learned more about
why this is such an important aspect of culture.

c/ Learning Objective: Demonstrate an Ability to Initiate and Plan a Community

Action
The planning for this particular project really called for some coordination, and this is one
project that required coordination from the whole class. We began by brainstorming this
particular concept together and agreed to use the Black History Month theme. From there,
we divided into groups according to each activity, and everyone had a responsibility to fulfill.
These were assigned in a way that took into consideration everyone’s strengths and
interests.
My responsibility in this particular project during the planning phase was to help coordinate
the structure for supervision and think through the logistics for the ribbon distribution. How
many ribbons do we need? At what point do we distribute them? How do we avoid confusion
during this time? We also had to plan for the Tuesday classroom visits in advance, including
which poster to use and which class to go to which rooms. The fact that everything ran
smoothly during this time is a testament to the fact that, although it was not perfect, it had
been well planned for in advance. From this particular project, I have come to learn that this
event’s success is entirely dependent on the planning done beforehand.

d/ Learning Objective: Demonstrate Perseverance and Commitment to the

Experience
However, although this project was condensed into a few days rather than a lengthy period,
it was nonetheless a project that required dedication. There were definitely times during the
preparation phase when juggling this project with other academic obligations, such as tests,
homework, and other deadlines, seemed a bit challenging. However, finding the means to do
this project justice while at the same time juggling other responsibilities was definitely a test
of my perseverance.
What got me through this project was the underlying purpose for which the project was
undertaken. Black History Month is not simply a celebration; rather, it is a means for us to
recognize the history that is too frequently ignored. The knowledge that our project could
genuinely teach something to the students who attended, or at least start a conversation
they had never had before, was what got me through the project. Even when my feet hurt
during the event itself, and the hall was noisy and chaotic, I knew that what we were doing
was making a difference.

e/ Learning Objective: Demonstrate Skills and Recognize the Benefits of

Collaborative Work
This project was a true collaborative effort, and the success of the event was entirely the
result of every group doing their part well. In the course of the planning, we had open
discussions on how best to organize every stand, and I found that the best ideas came from
a combination of different perspectives. I tried to be an active listener in the course of the
discussions, especially when decisions had to be made.
The day of the event was when the collaboration was especially evident. Every group was
confident that the other groups could do their part well, which meant that everything was
done in parallel without any confusion. My position as one of the supervisors gave me a
bird's-eye view of every collaboration going on, and I must say that it was genuinely
impressive to see how well the team functioned. I do believe that collaborative work always
produces better results than individual work.

f/ Learning Objective: Demonstrate Commitment to Issues of Global

Importance
The connection between Black History Month and the global struggle for racial equality,
justice, and representation is undeniable. The history of the black race across the globe is a
history of centuries of struggle for a more equal and just world. Celebrating the history of the
black race is a reminder that the struggle must not end. By dedicating our community service
project to the theme of Black History Month, we were engaging in a deliberate choice to
participate in one of the most significant global dialogues of the day.
The most striking moment of the day for me was the interview stand. Listening to the
students answer questions on their favorite black leaders or the movement that inspired
them the most made me understand the level of interest that the youth have in the subject
when given the platform to express themselves. It made me understand that sometimes the
best way to participate in the global discourse is not through grand acts but through simple
questions and conversations. This project has made me more determined than ever to stay
informed and use whatever platform I have, no matter how small, to propagate the values of
a more equal and just world.

g/ Learning Objective: Recognize and Reflect on the Ethics of Choices and

Actions
This project has made me realize the gravity of the decisions that we make in life, even if it is
something as mundane as organizing a school event. The decision to make black history
month the focal point of our community service was an ethical decision. It was a decision to
celebrate history that is not often told, to give prominence to people whose contributions to
history have not been recognized as much as they should have been, and to use our
platform as students to not only entertain but also educate.
The decisions that we make in life have been an important theme that has been underscored
throughout the entire process of the project. The interviews that were conducted during the
event were particularly important in this aspect because they asked people to reflect on their
own lives and the things that inspire them, which is an inherently ethical decision. This
experience has changed the way that I see things as a student and a member of the
community. It has made me realize that being conscious of the implications of the decisions
that we make is not just an academic exercise but a way of life.

4/ Conclusion:
Overall, "Stronger Together: Honoring Heritage Through Service" was one of the most
meaningful community service projects that I have been a part of. It was a blend of
education, creativity, and human interaction that made a significant impact on all who were a
part of it – organizers as well as participants.
If I were to do this project again, I think I would have spent a lot more time on the preparation
aspect, particularly with regards to content at each station as well as the interview station, as
it was one of the most successful aspects of the project. I also think that maybe this project
could have been extended to a full day, allowing more students to participate. Perhaps guest
speakers from within the local community could have been invited to speak about their own
experiences related to Black history and heritage.
This project has reinforced for me that community service that comes from a place that truly
matters can make a huge difference. Honoring Black history and heritage is not a one-day
task; it’s a continuous process. I am proud of what our class was able to accomplish, and I
carry this with me.
