Life below water
Hello everyone! My name is Chau Anh, and I'm super excited to talk to you today about
something really important: our oceans!
The oceans are home to seahorses, dolphins, whales, corals and many other living
[Link] oceans are essential to the Earth's ecosystem, making the planet habitable.
About 70 percent of our planet is covered by oceans and seas. We rely on them for food,
energy and water. But here's the problem: our oceans are in trouble. Pollution, overfishing,
and climate change are all hurting the amazing life below the water. It's like we're not taking
care of our own home! We have caused serious problems that have brought enormous
damage to them through water pollution and over-exploitation of resources. Human activities
are having a negative impact on the oceans.
Think about it: if we keep throwing trash into the ocean, where will all the sea creatures live?
If we catch too many fish, there won't be any left for the future. And if the ocean gets too
warm, it's like their home is changing too fast for them to handle.
According to the research, every year, an estimated 5 to 12 million tons of plastic are
dumped into the ocean. Carbon emissions from human activities, such as driving, are
warming the ocean and increasing the acidity of the water. This is extremely harmful to
animals and marine life, as the acid can break down the shells of creatures and harm coral
reefs. The United Nations has set Sustainable Development Goal 14 - Life below Water to
reduce marine pollution, protect and restore ecosystems, reduce ocean acidification, fish
sustainably, conserve coastal and marine areas, reduce overfishing, and increase economic
benefits from the sustainable use of marine resources.
Vietnam is working on UN SDG 14 by trying to reduce ocean pollution and protect sea life.
They have plans to minimize waste in the ocean by 2025. The country also has a special
week every June to encourage people to help keep the ocean clean, like cleaning beaches
and stopping littering. These actions show Vietnam's effort to care for the ocean.
However, we can all make a difference, even as kids. We can reduce our plastic use,
support sustainable seafood choices, and learn more about ocean conservation. We can
also spread the word and inspire others to take action.
One way we can help protect our environment is by reducing our plastic use. Instead of
using plastic bags, water bottles, and straws, we can use reusable ones. This helps reduce
the amount of plastic that ends up in the ocean. Another important thing we can do is eat
sustainable seafood. We can ask our parents to buy fish from sources that catch fish
responsibly, helping to protect marine life. It’s also important to learn more about ocean
conservation and share what we know with our friends and family. By doing these simple
things, we can make a big difference in keeping our oceans clean and healthy.
Thank you for listening. Do you have any questions?....Thanks, see you next time!
