A food chain is a model that helps us to understand how energy passes through the organisms in an ecosystem.

Vocabulary

1. Carnivore: animal that eats other animals.

2. Consumer: animal that eats other living things.

3. Food chain: diagram showing feeding relationships in a habitat- each species is a food is a food source for the

species at the next level.

4. Herbivore: animal that eats plants.

5. Omnivore: animal that eats both plants and animals.

6. Producer: organism that makes its own food, such as a plant.

7. Decomposer: break down dead things.

8. Predator: Animal that kills for food.

9. Prey: Animal that predators feed on.

Activity 1
