Personal hygiene

Every workplace has its norms and policies. Cleanliness and personal hygiene are
always part of these norms and policies. All businesses have a dress code. This dress
code is part of the self_hygiene of employees.
Maintaining proper hygiene at the workplace is very important for the good reputation of
businesses. Both the official authorities and the employees need to take care of their
hygiene. No boss would want a dirty dirty person to represent his company. Similarly,
no employee would want to work in a firm with a dirty restroom, cubicle or workshop.
The contribution of both parties is essential for the good reputation of the firm. Personal
hygiene helps prevent the spread of contaminants and infectious disease.
Regularly cleaning the skin or wearing the proper gears for the work can prevent
irritation, allergic reactions and dermatitis.

Hand tool

Hand tool is a tool held in the hand and operated without electricity or other energy such
as a hammer, chisel, screwdriver etc. Large number of injuries are caused by hand
tools, so hand tools safety is of utmost importance. The main causes for these
accidents are the use of unsuitable or damaged tools, misuse and improper
maintenance. Some of which are:
● Using a screwdriver as a chisel may cause the tip of the screwdriver to break and
fly, hitting the user or other employees.
● If a wooden handle on a tool such as a hammer is loose , splintered or cracked,
the head of the tool may fly off and strike the user or other employees.

● Impact tools such as chisels, drift pins or wedges are unsafe if they have
mushroom heads. All tools should be replaced or repaired when found defective.

● A wrench should not be used if the jaws are sprung because it might slip.
Repairs should only be done by a qualified person.

● Alway stay focused when using tools and follow the safety rules.

● Eye injury due to flying chips from tools.

Power Tools

A power tool is a tool electrical connected to a source of electricity by cord or batteries.

Power tools whether used for home improvement, crafting or professionally can be
incredibly helpful making tasks easier and more efficient. However these power devices
can cause significant safety risk if not properly used. Some dangers are apparent like
sharp blades, fast moving parts. Some of the hazards caused by power tools are:
● Noise hazard, frequent and prolonged exposure to high noise can lead to hearing
loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Ear protection such earplugs and earmuffs
should be provided by the employer and worn at all times.

● Dust hazard generated by power tools. Depending on the material being used,
the dust can contain various harmful substances including wood dust, metal dust
and silica dust. Inhaling these substances can lead to respiratory problems such
as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and silicosis.

● Cancers, certain types of dust such as the wood dust and silica dust are known
carcinogens and prolonged exposure can increase the risk of cancer. A dust
mask is required in this case.

● Yanking cords out of the wall receptacle by the cord is also unsafe. When using
any type of electrical equipment, always inspect the plugs, cords, and attaching
hardware for frays, cracks, cuts or damage.
Follow the safety rules and use the proper tool for the job at all times and think
about safety while executing each task. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
should be worn when necessary. In the event of an injury, even minor injuries,
report it to your supervisor.
When working with hand or power tools your safety attitude and common sense
are the two most important parts of your job. Your organization can have the
most efficient safety rules and the best equipment but you neglect the attitude
part you are heading for trouble.
