I’m 20 years old , I was born in Daklak province,I’m a sophomore at
HCM city university of Transport . my majob is marine [Link] and
manegement .There are 4 peoples in my family including my parents ,a
little sister , me
Well in my free time ,I love watching TV and playing soccer

2. What’s your favorite subject?
My favorite subject is Maths,because it help me for my future job, it
provide problem-solving skill.
3. Do you enjoy listening to music or reading books?
Oh good question, I often read marine documents, the major I am
studying. Sometimes I playing soccer . it help me energy and makes me
feel better after studying or working.
4. What makes you happy?
Happiness for me is found in the simple things: spending quality time
with family and friends, sharing laughter and joy, and enjoying meals
together."
5. How important is English for this job?
-English is very important for this job because it is the international
language of shipping. We need English to communicate with foreign
crew members, follow instructions, and understand documents on board.
Besides, English also helps me join interviews with the companies that I
want to work for. To improve my English, I practice speaking every day,
listen to English materials, and study maritime English vocabulary.
-How do you improve your English?
6. How long do you plan to work at sea/as a sailor?
Actually, it's hard to say. Right now, I don't plan to change to any other
major because this has been my dream for years.I plan to work as a sailor
for at least 10 years. It will allow me to gain a lot of experience and,
hopefully, become a captain - which is my ultimate goal.

Well, I think my friends would say I’m friendly, hardworking, and
honest. When working in a team, I always try to support others and stay
positive. I also like to make a clear plan so that we can finish the job in
the best way. I’m not very talkative, but I always try to do my part well
and respect the people around me.
8. What are your strengths and weaknesses? (40-60 seconds).
Well, my strength is that I’m hardworking and I work well in a team.
I’m always willing to learn and help my teammates. As for my
weakness, my English is not very strong right now, but I’m working on
improving it every day by practicing listening, speaking, and learning
more vocabulary. I hope that in the future, I’ll be able to communicate
better and make my work more efficient.
9. Why didn’t you choose the engine department?
Because I can't work in a noisy space with machines, I can't stand the
smell of oil, besides I like to work in a place where I can see everything,
so I choose to work in the deck department.
10. Why did you choose this job? (30-50 seconds).
"I chose this career because of my interest in ships, travel, and the
maritime profession. It offers great career growth, international exposure,
and opportunities to develop discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.

13. What do you prepare before working on a ship?

The basic parts of a ship include the hull, deck, bow, stern, port side,
starboard side, bridge, propeller, rudder, anchor, engine room, cargo hold,
mast, and lifeboats."
15. What’s your favorite part of a ship?
The ship's bridge serves as the central command station for the entire
vessel. It is the crucial hub that controls the ship's movement via its
navigational equipment. From the bridge, the crew operates vital systems,
including important deck machinery, the main engine, and the ship's
navigation system.

16. Do your parents support your decision to choose this major?
My family supported me to be a seaman, because I am their next hope
and I am supposed to help my family's economy. For sure homesick will
come away from family, it's a human being. But the reasons why I shall
go and come back again with success, are way stronger than
homesickness itself

20. What is your goal five years from now? (Include details, timeline,

In the next (five) ten years I would like to become (second officer)
captain.
After the first year of cadetship, I'll get COC (Certificate of Competency)
license, then I try my best to become third officer the second year. After
that, I try to become second officer the fifth year. and the next five years,
I would like to become a captain.
21. How do you ensure effective teamwork? (Following leaders,
listening, and respecting others' opinions; understanding strengths and
weaknesses).

You should hire me because I strongly believe that I am competent
graduate of UTH and I am very confident with my skill and knowledge
for my apprenticeship training. I also have the necessary training
certificates and documents that are required for my Cadetship.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
What is the duty and responsibilities of Cadet?
Yes sir, I haven't worked on board but I have seen many videos of cadet
on ship. I will tell you what I know.
The main duty of cadet is learning.
He will follow Bosun and AB to maintain deck like chipping, painting,
greasing and tank sounding.
He sometimes participate in safety drills like fire drill and abandon ship
drill.
In the evening, he assists officer lookout, Radar observation and learn
bridge equipment.
Lastly, he will learn everything in Training Record Book (TRB).
One more thing, Cadet must be aware of safety and environment
following company SMS (Ship Management System)
What is the duty and responsibilities of 3/O?
=> Third officer is responsible for LSA and FFE maintenance.
=> He is in charge of paperwork.
=> Third officer starts his duty from 08:00 to 12:00 and 20:00 to 00:00
=> When berthing operation, normally third mate stays on bridge to
assist captain and pilot.
He also in charge of recording drill
What is your career plan in the next (five) ten years?
- In the next (five) ten years I would like to become (second officer)
captain.

Can you tell me some challenges of being a sailor/seaman/seafarer? =

Yes sir, I haven't worked on board but I have seen many videos of cadet
on ship. I will tell you what I know.
- Firstly, seasick. I could get vomit in bad weather.
- Secondly, homesick. Well, working onboard 9 or months away from
home make me homesick.
- Thirdly, lack of fresh food and limit internet access.
- Lastly, racist. Some white crew they will look down on Vietnam crew.
How do you stay motivated and disciplined while working at sea?
"I set goals, follow routines, maintain good relationships with crew, and
focus on learning.
What is your favorite subject?
My favorite subject is Marine Radio Equipment. I want to learn it
because I believe communication is key for safety on the ocean, so
understanding GMDSS is essential. Secondly, I enjoy the technical
challenge of working with complex systems, which makes me a more
skilled crew member. Finally, this knowledge directly supports safe
navigation and the overall success of the ship's journey."
When will you graduate?
I am currently study at UYH , and I am scheduled to complete my full
program and officially graduate in 2027
Have you ever worked on a ship before?
No, I have never worked on a ship before, but I have completed my
internship on the BINH THANH during my time at sea as a trainee on
general cargo vessels. That experience has given me a lot of knowledge
such as maintenance, painting, washing, cleaning, and greasing
equipment.
Why do you choose the deck department instead of the engine
department?
First =>The bridge and deck areas are generally cleaner, more
comfortable, and have air conditioning, providing a better environment
than the hot, noisy, and sometimes have dangerous engine room.
because have opportunity to work with a view of the outside. I can see
the ocean, sunrises, sunsets, and stars, which is a significant perk for
many.
My long-term career goal is to become a Captain of a vessel. The Deck
Department provides the direct path for me to achieve this high rank,
starting from a deck officer.
