Production Process
Production is the process in which a magazine, or a marketing theme is planned
out for the audience, ensuring that the magazine includes everything that is
needed and is clear.
Magazine Production Equipment and Software
The three main specialised equipment and software needed to make a magazine
are: DSLR camera, Photoshop and desktop and publishing software.
DSLR Camera
The DSLR camera which stands for digital single-lens reflex is a wireless camera
from Curry’s which is £649.99. The camera has many features that make it the
perfect suit for taking modelling pictures for magazines and magazine covers.
Firstly, this is because of its wireless feature, meaning that when a photographer is
taking pictures of the model, they can change the angles of the photographs,
making sure that some of the images are different to one another, whilst still
getting the full visual image of the outfit being shown and advertised.

Photoshop
Adobe photoshop is a software which helps improve the quality and the overall
image of the photographs it can be downloaded. It is easy to use, meaning that
beginners will be able to start editing their images easily, with no stress. On Adobe
Photoshop, there are multiple features that can be used to improve the look of
your image, this could range from, editing the brightness of the image to the
contrast, to adding filters and effects. You can also simply crop or resize an image,
to make sure it is the right size for the advertisement in your campaign and in
magazine production resizing and cropping can also help with the features needed

Desktop Publishing Software
Quark Xpress is a desktop publishing
software, used in the speciality of writing
articles. This can be useful in magazine
production, because of its wide range of
helpful tools used to make written articles
structured, and well worded articles. Helping
to improve your dialogue and hopefully give
the person who is using the app a better
chance and more opportunities to do well in
writing, given all of its benefits on writing.

Magazine Production
Process
Pre- Production- Content
In this stage the editorial team meets. This is where all ideas are shared
throughout the group of editors, it is also where they make decisions about the
content that they will end up producing. The editor will assign articles to the
writers to produce, this is when they will begin to plan out their articles and
content decisions, and where responsibilities can be established.
Pre-Production- Flat planning

The team will initially go through the flat plan for the product or magazine being
created. A flat plan is a visual blueprint which has been created to create an
Easier, and more simplistic way to plan out the content in a magazine, giving a
bird’s eye view and in which order it will be placed. This includes articles,
advertisements and images which all link to that genre of magazine. This allows
the editing team to arrange and discuss the layout, and the length of each page,
which creates a visual expectation for the final product.
Production-
New research will be completed to collect new information about the articles
which will be produced at this stage Photoshoots will also be done, to add images
onto the pages which link to the genre of magazine. They may also locate archive
images, which are previously taken images.
Production-Writing and sub-editing-
This is when a person will check the work that is being produced and check it for
grammatical and spelling errors. If the articles are too long, either the sub-editor
or the writer who produced the article will cut it down to ensure that it fits the
criteria for the magazine. As well as this, if the article is too short, they will be
asked to add more information into the text and produce more writing.
This is when QuarkXPress was introduced, which is a desktop software to layout
the articles, text and photos. This is important because this is where the content
is constructed.
Post-Production checking printer proof-
The final product will be sent to publishers to make any amendments which
were not processed with the sub-editors and for them to do a final mop up of the
articles, with this information it is then sent to the editors to a final check-up.
Postproduction- Completion and distribution-
Then the editors will give approval, and the final copies will be sent out to be
distributed.

Magazine Production Roles-
The production panel is a list of information of who is involved in the production
of the magazine, and the jobs that are in place.
Magazine Job Roles-
Editor-in-chief- This is the top editorial person in production, with the overall
authority over content. This involves overseeing the entire editorial process, from
brainstorming ideas, to commissioning stories, giving final improvements.
Editor-at-large- This is someone who has experienced and has freedom to
contribute to articles or ideas on subjects, they have the freedom to write on any
subject that they are interested in and are usually looked at to be the experts in
their production.
Photographer-This is a person who will take the photographs for the magazine
and the style that the photographs will be taken in, and to also capture the perfect
image to be put into marketing, ensuring that it is the best image, making sure that

the whole model is in frame if needed, and the product that is being put on the
market has full visibility to the naked eye and the audience.
