Circular Belt (Round Belt):
A circular belt, also called a round belt, is a type of belt drive that has a circular
cross
section. It is used to transmit power between rotating shafts through grooved
pulleys
specially designed to hold the round shape of the belt. The power is transmitted
mainly through friction between the belt and the pulley surface.
Round belts are mainly used for low power transmission and in machines where
light
loads and small distances between shafts are involved. They are suitable for
applications that require smooth and quiet operation. Because of their flexibility,
they
can easily work in systems where the shaft alignment may not be perfect.
Circular belts are commonly used in sewing machines, small machine tools,
conveyors, office machines, and agricultural equipment. These belts are usually
made
from rubber, leather, polyurethane, or other synthetic materials, which provide
good
strength, flexibility, and durability.
Some advantages of circular belts include simple construction, easy installation,
smooth operation, and the ability to transmit power in different directions.
However,
they are not suitable for heavy loads or high power transmission, as they are
mainly
designed for light-duty applications.

[Link] Belt (Toothed Belt):
A timing belt, also known as a toothed belt, is a type of belt drive that has teeth on
its
inner surface. These teeth fit exactly into the matching grooves of the pulley,
allowing
the belt and pulley to move together without slipping. Thi
Rocker arms are important for controlling the timing of opening and closing of
valves,
which allows the air-fuel mixture to enter the cylinder and exhaust gases to leave.
4.4 Sheet Metal Cutter :
A sheet metal cutter is a machine designed to cut sheet metal into specific shapes
or sizes with
precision and efficiency. One common type of sheet metal cutter employs a crank–
rocker
mechanism, which converts the continuous rotary motion of a motor or crank into
the
reciprocating motion of the cutting blade. This mechanism ensures that the cutting
blade
moves downward during the cutting stroke and returns smoothly during the return
stroke,
allowing for repetitive and uniform cuts. The machine is equipped with tools such
as punches
and dies or upper and lower blades, and a small clearance is maintained between
the cutting
edges to facilitate proper shearing of the metal. By automating the motion of the
cutting
blade, the sheet metal cutter reduces manual effort, increases production speed, and
improves
cutting accuracy. It is widely used in workshops and industrial settings to handle
sheet metals
of varying thicknesses and materials, ensuring consistent quality and efficiency in
metal
fabrication operations.

4.5 DC MOTOR:
A DC motor can be used to drive a crank–rocker mechanism, which converts the
motor’s continuous rotary motion into reciprocating or oscillating motion suitable
for
various mechanical operations. In machines like sheet metal cutters, punching
machines, or mechanical presses, the DC motor provides the input power, while t
he sheet metal is placed during cutting. Its main function is to provide a stable
and level platform that supports the sheet and ensures accurate operation of the
cutting mechanism.
To begin the operation, the sheet metal is laid flat on the table and aligned using
guides, markings, or stops to position it correctly. The table holds the sheet firmly
in
place, preventing it from slipping or moving during the cutting process. When the
cutting blade or crank-rocker mechanism moves, the table provides rigid support,
allowing the force to be applied efficiently and producing straight, clean, and
precise
cuts.

4.7. METAL FRAME:
The metal frame of a sheet metal cutting machine serves as the main
structural support for all its components. It provides a rigid and stable base to hold
parts such as the table, cutting blade, crank-rocker mechanism, motor, and guides
in
their proper positions.
The frame ensures that the machine remains steady during operation,
preventing vibrations or movement that could affect the accuracy and quality o 4.9.
CONNECTING SHAFT :
The connecting shaft is mounted on ball bearings or plain bearings, which
allow it to rotate smoothly with minimal friction. One end of the shaft is connected
to
the crank wheel, which converts rotary motion from the motor or driving
mechanism.
As the crank wheel rotates, the connecting shaft transmits this rotary motion
through
the bearings, maintaining proper alignment and supporting the shaft against
bending
or torsion forces.
The other end of the connecting shaft is usually connected to the rocker or
another machine component, converting the transmitted motion into oscillating or
reciprocating motion depending on the mechanism. The bearings provide smooth
rotation, reduce wear, and increase the lifespan of ORKING PRINCIPLE
The sheet metal cutting machine operates on the principle of a crank-rocker
mechanism, which converts rotary motion into the reciprocating motion of the
cutting
blade. A handle is fixed to the crank, and when the handle is rotated, the crank
rotates
along with it. The motion of the crank is transmitted through a connecting rod to a
rocker arm, which is attached to the cutting blade. The position of the crank
determines the position of the cutter and the tension in the spring. When the crank
is
at its bottom position, the cutter is in the full open position, and the spring remains
at
rest. As the crank rotates to the left, the cutter moves to a partial cutting position,
and
the spring is in partial tension. When the crank reaches the top position, the cutter
reaches the full cutting position, and the spring is in full tension. Continuing the
rotation to the right position, the cutter returns to a partial cutting position, and the
spring tension reduces accordingly.
During operation, the sheet metal is placed on the work table, and the crank
rocker mechanism ensures the cutter moves smoothly and precisely. The spring
loaded cutter applies consistent pressure to cut the sheet accurately. The
connecting
rod and rocker arm maintain proper motion and timing, ensuring that each stroke
of
the cutter is efficient and repeatable.
By using the crank-rocker mechanism, the machine provides continuous,
smooth, and precise cutting of sheet metal, overcoming the limitations of previous
systems that used Geneva mechanisms. The handle or motor continuously drives
the
crank, allowing the sheet metal to be fed, cut, and released in a controlled and
synchronized manner, making the machine reliable, efficient, and suitable for
industrial use.
5.2 Advantages of Sheet Metal Cutting Machine with Crank-Rocker
Mechanism:
The sheet metal cutting machine with a crank-rocker mechanism offers several
advantages in mechanical workshops and small-scale industries. One of the main
advantages is smooth and continuous operation, as the crank-rocker mechanism
vement of the cutter during operation. The machine also provides high cutting
accuracy, which helps in producing clean and precise cuts in sheet metal materials.
Another important advantage is efficient power transmission from the motor to the
cutting mechanism through the crank wheel and rocker arm. The design also helps
in
reducing wear and tear of components because the motion is properly guided
through
bearings and linkages. The machine allows adjustable cutting stroke, which makes
it
possible to cut sheets of different sizes and thicknesses.
The machine has a compact and simple design, making it easy to manufacture,
assemble, and maintain. It is also reliable and safe to operate because the
mechanism
works in a controlled motion. In addition, it is suitable for repeated operations,
which
makes it useful for small production work and educational laboratory experiments.

5.3 LIMITATION:
Despite its advantages, the machine also has some limitations. The machine is
generally limited to cutting thin or medium thickness sheet metal, and it may not
be
suitable for very thick or hard materials. Another limitation is that the machine
may
operate with manual control or limited motor power, which can restrict the cutting
capacity.
The cutting speed is slower compared to fully automated industrial cutting
machines,
which may reduce productivity in large-scale manufacturing. The machine also
requires regular lubrication and maintenance to ensure smooth movement of the
crank-rocker mechanism and to reduce friction between moving parts. If
maintenance
is not performed properly, the efficiency and life of th LICATIONS:
