General Instructions for Research Assignment Writing

1. How to Start the Assignment (Introduction)


Every assignment must begin with a clear and focused introduction (approximately 10–15% of
the total paper). The introduction should:
• Introduce the topic and its background
• Explain why the topic is important
• State the research problem
• Mention the objectives of the assignment
• Briefly outline the structure of the paper
Tip for students:
Start with a general statement about the issue, then narrow down to your specific research focus.
Avoid storytelling; write in formal academic language.

2. Literature Review (Optional but Recommended)


Students should briefly discuss:
• What scholars or experts have already written on the topic
• Existing debates or gaps in research
• How their assignment adds value
This section shows understanding of previous work.

3. Main Body (Analysis Section)


This is the core of the assignment (about 60–70%). It should be divided into clear headings and
subheadings. Students should:
• Explain the relevant laws and legal framework
• Analyze case law and judicial decisions
• Discuss practical issues and real-world examples
• Present critical evaluation, not just description
• Compare with other countries (if relevant)
Each paragraph should contain:
• One main idea
• Supporting evidence (laws, cases, examples)
• Logical explanation
4. Materials to Use
Students must support their arguments with:
• Constitutional provisions (if applicable)
• Statutes and Rules
• Reported court judgments
• Scholarly articles and books
All sources should be cited using Chicago-style footnotes. Avoid copy-paste (plagiarism). Write
in your own words.

5. Recommendations Section
Students should include a separate section suggesting:
• Practical legal reforms
• Policy improvements
• Administrative solutions
Recommendations must be realistic and based on the analysis.

6. How to End the Assignment (Conclusion)


The conclusion should:
• Summarize the key findings
• Restate the importance of the issue
• Highlight the main recommendations
• Avoid introducing new arguments
The conclusion should be concise and analytical, not repetitive.

7. Writing Style Guidelines


Students should:
• Use formal academic language
• Avoid emotional or biased expressions
• Write in clear and simple sentences
• Maintain logical flow between paragraphs
• Use proper headings and formatting
