performance in English subjects.
The meeting was called by the school principal to analyze possible causes of the problem and to create intervention

I called this meeting because our recent quarterly English test results showed a noticeable decline in student performance.
As educators, mahalagang maunawaan natin kung ano ang mga dahilan ng pagbaba ng performance ng ating mga
estudyante at kung paano natin sila matutulungan.
Our goal today is to analyze the data, identify possible causes, and propose solutions that we can implement to improve
student outcomes.
Before we begin, may I request our secretary to document the minutes of the meeting.

Yes Ma’am. I will be documenting the important discussions, suggestions, and decisions during this meeting.
Principal:
Thank you. To start our discussion, I will ask Ms. Rachiene, our English Department Head, to present the data regarding
the students’ performance.
1:30 – 3:00 | Data Presentation
Rachiene:
Thank you, Ma’am. Based on the results of the recent quarterly English assessments, we observed that a significant
number of students scored below the expected proficiency level.
Compared to the previous quarter, the average performance dropped by around ten percent.
Students struggled the most in reading comprehension, grammar and sentence construction, and essay writing.
Possible contributing factors include limited reading habits, difficulty analyzing complex texts, lack of writing practice,
and distractions from technology and social media.
At this point, I would like to open the floor for comments and observations from our teachers.
3:00 – 5:30 | Discussion
Teacher Syd:
From my observation in class, maraming students ang nahihirapan sa reading comprehension. They can read the text but
struggle to explain the meaning or identify the main idea.
Teacher Crisela:
Napansin ko rin na konti lang ang students na nagbabasa outside the classroom. Most of them are exposed to short online
content which affects their ability to understand longer texts.
Teacher Lhea:
Another concern is that many students lack confidence in writing. Some hesitate to write essays because they think their
grammar is not strong enough.
Teacher Shiela:
We can introduce peer review activities where students check each other's work and provide feedback.
Teacher Dan:
We can also use more interactive teaching strategies like group discussions, presentations, and collaborative learning
activities to increase engagement.
5:30 – 7:30 | Proposed Solutions
Thank you for sharing your insights. Based on the discussion, it is clear that we need to implement specific
intervention programs. Ms. Rachiene, could you present possible strategies that we can adopt? Rachiene Yes Ma’am.
Based on the concerns raised, I would like to propose the following intervention strategies. First, we can implement a
Weekly Reading Program where students will read selected materials and answer guided comprehension questions.
Second, we can organize Writing Enhancement Workshops that focus on grammar, sentence construction, and essay
development. Third, we can establish a Peer Tutoring System where students who excel in English can assist
classmates who need additional support. Finally, teachers can incorporate interactive and collaborative learning
activities to increase student engagement during lessons. These strategies aim to improve both reading and writing
skills, which are essential in English learning.

The English Department Head will coordinate the implementation and monitor student progress.
To ensure that these intervention strategies are implemented effectively, we will assign specific responsibilities to
members of the English department. For the Weekly Reading Program, I would like Teacher Syd and Teacher Crisela to
lead the planning. Please select appropriate reading materials and prepare guided comprehension questions that can
be used weekly. For the Writing Enhancement Workshops, Teacher Lhea and Teacher Shiela will take charge. Kindly
design short writing activities and exercises that will help students improve their grammar, sentence construction, and
essay writing. For the Peer Tutoring System, I will assign Teacher April and Teacher Precious to identify students who
perform well in English and organize a schedule where they can assist their classmates. Lastly, for the Interactive and
Collaborative Learning Activities, Teacher Dan will help develop engaging classroom strategies that teachers can
incorporate during English lessons. Principal (continuation) Ms. Rachiene, as the English Department Head, please
coordinate with the teachers and create an implementation timeline for these programs. We will review the progress of
these interventions during our next department meeting to evaluate their effectiveness.
