Tech Challenge #2 – To Mars and Back - Cadet Difficulty
Calculate the length of time that it takes for a signal traveling at the speed of
light to travel to Mars from the Earth and back, and to Ceres from the Earth
and back. Calculate these at both the closest and furthest approaches of
Earth and Mars and then Earth and Ceres. Thus, you should have four total
answers:
Earth to Mars and back at closest approach:
Earth to Mars and back at their furthest points from each other:
Earth to Ceres and back at closest approach:
Earth to Ceres and back at their furthest points from each other:
Assuming that light travel time is the only consideration for choosing which of
these bodies to go to, which one is easier to communicate with on average?
Attach your mathematical calculations as well as your answer to this final
question to your challenge submission.
