Once there was a king of Judah named Hezekiah, who loved God. His father, Ahaz, had not
trusted God, but Hezekiah tried to do what was right.

One day, the mighty Assyrian king Sennacherib attacked Judah. Hezekiah was scared because
the Assyrian army was huge and threatening Jerusalem. He sent a message to Isaiah the
prophet asking what to do.

Isaiah told him:

“Do not be afraid. God will protect the city. He will fight for you.”

Hezekiah trusted God. That night, something amazing happened: God sent an angel who
struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in their camp. When Hezekiah woke up, he saw that the
threat was gone — the city was safe. (Isaiah 37:36)

Later, Hezekiah became very sick. Isaiah told him he would die. But Hezekiah prayed earnestly
to God, and God healed him and gave him 15 more years of life (Isaiah 38).

Hezekiah also worked to clean the Temple and make sure the people of Judah worshiped God
properly. Through it all, Isaiah was there as God’s messenger, guiding him and giving warnings
and encouragement.
