Objective
The objective of this assignment is to enable students to apply strategic
management concepts, tools, and frameworks to a real-world organisational
context. Students are expected to conduct a comprehensive strategic analysis of
an existing global or multinational company, critically evaluate its current
strategy, and demonstrate an understanding of how strategic decisions support
long-term organisational success.
Assignment Overview
You are required to assume the role of a consultant for a strategic management
firm. In this role, you will conduct an in-depth strategic analysis of an organisation
of your choice, preferably a global or multinational company. The assignment
requires the integration of theory and practice, critical analysis, and evidence-
based reasoning.
Task 1: Company Overview
(Total: 50 Marks)
Provide a comprehensive overview of the selected company by addressing the
following aspects:
Organisational Background (25 marks)
Brief history and development of the company
Core products and/or services
Key markets served (geographical and/or sectoral)
The organisation’s mission and vision
Industry Position and Strategic Direction (15 marks)
Description of the company’s current position within its industry
Overview of its strategic objectives and competitive positioning
Justification for Company Selection (10 marks)
Explain why this company was selected for analysis
Justify its relevance in the context of
strategic management concepts
Assessment Purpose
This task requires students to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world
organisational contexts, thereby promoting a deeper understanding of strategic
management and its practical application. The task further develops critical
thinking skills and the ability to justify strategic choices in relation to an
organisation’s broader goals and operating environment.
Referencing Requirements
A minimum of Ten (10) academic sources must be used.
Sources may include prescribed textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles,
and reputable business or industry reports.
All sources must be cited using the Harvard referencing style, both in-text
and in the reference list.
Assignment should be typed using Arial/Times New Roman, font size 12,
line spacing 1.5.
Assignment should be a minimum of 3 pages (max 5 pages), excluding the
cover page and reference page.
