🚢 Interview – Cadet Position (MSC)

Interviewer: Good morning. Please introduce yourself.

Cadet:
Good morning, Sir/Ma’am. Thank you for the opportunity. My name is [Your Full Name]. I am a
graduate of [Name of Maritime Academy], majoring in Nautical/Marine Engineering. I have
completed all mandatory STCW basic safety training and I am physically and mentally prepared to
start my sea service as a cadet. I am highly motivated to learn and develop my competence on board.

Interviewer: Why do you want to join MSC?

Cadet:
I am interested in joining MSC because it is one of the world’s leading container shipping companies
with a strong international reputation. I believe MSC provides excellent training standards, high
safety culture, and exposure to modern vessels and global trade routes. It would be an honor to
begin my maritime career with such a reputable company.

Interviewer: What do you know about MSC?

Cadet:
MSC is a global container shipping company operating worldwide with a large fleet of container
vessels. The company emphasizes safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. MSC operates
in many international ports and plays an important role in global logistics and trade.

Interviewer: What are your responsibilities as a cadet on board?

Cadet (Deck Cadet example):


As a Deck Cadet, my main responsibility is to learn under the supervision of senior officers. I will
assist in navigation watchkeeping, cargo operations, mooring operations, maintenance work, and
safety drills. I understand that discipline, respect for the chain of command, and active learning are
essential.

Cadet (Engine Cadet example):


As an Engine Cadet, my responsibility is to assist the engine officers in engine room operations,
maintenance of machinery, monitoring engine performance, and participating in safety procedures.
My main goal is to learn practical skills and apply my theoretical knowledge safely.

Interviewer: How do you handle working in a multicultural crew?

Cadet:
I understand that MSC vessels have multinational crews. I respect different cultures and
backgrounds, and I believe clear communication, teamwork, and professionalism are very important
to maintain harmony and efficiency on board.
Interviewer: What will you do if you make a mistake?

Cadet:
If I make a mistake, I will report it honestly to my superior, accept responsibility, and learn from it.
Safety and transparency are very important on board, so I will never hide mistakes.

Interviewer: Are you ready for a long contract at sea?

Cadet:
Yes, Sir/Ma’am. I fully understand the challenges of long contracts and being away from family. I am
mentally prepared and committed to completing my contract responsibly.

Interviewer: What is your long-term goal?

Cadet:
My long-term goal is to complete my sea service successfully, obtain my officer certification, and
gradually advance in rank through dedication and continuous improvement. I hope to grow within
MSC and build a stable maritime career.
