ASSIGNMENT 9
Testing and Troubleshooting of Implemented Circuit on
PCB
1. Introduction
A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is used to mechanically support and electrically
connect electronic components using conductive pathways. After designing and
implementing a circuit on a PCB, it is very important to test and troubleshoot it to
ensure proper functioning.
Testing is the process of checking whether the circuit is working as expected, while
troubleshooting is the process of identifying and fixing faults present in the circuit.
2. Need of Testing and Troubleshooting
Testing ensures the circuit matches the design, detects errors, improves reliability,
ensures safety, and saves time and cost by identifying faults early.
3. Equipment Required
Digital Multimeter, Oscilloscope, Power Supply, Function Generator, Soldering
Tools, Continuity Tester, Magnifying Glass, Connecting Wires.
4. Testing Procedure
Visual inspection, continuity testing, power supply check, component testing, signal
testing, functional testing, and final output verification.
5. Common Circuit Problems
Short circuits, open circuits, incorrect component placement, overheating, noise,
and power supply issues.
6. Troubleshooting Techniques
Divide and conquer, signal tracing, substitution method, voltage measurement, re-
soldering, datasheet checking, and grounding verification.
7. Conclusion
Testing and troubleshooting ensure proper operation, safety, and reliability of PCB
circuits.
