Drainage Pattern

The document outlines various types of drainage patterns, including trellis, dendritic, rectangular, radial, centripetal, annular, barbed, pinnate, herringbone, and parallel patterns. Each pattern is characterized by specific geological features and formations, such as the arrangement of streams in relation to rock structures and slopes. The descriptions provide insights into how these patterns develop based on the underlying geology and topography.

TYPES OF DRAINAGE PATTERN

[Link] drainage pattern.

● folded mountains
● Parallel alternate anticlinal and synclinal ridges.
● streams developed on the flanks (side) of the anticlinal ridges joins the longitudinal synclinal
stream at right angles
● streams developed on the synclinal valleys run parallel to each other

[Link] drainage pattern

● developed in nearly horizontal sedimentary rock or massive igneous rock, uniform lithology
● looks like branches or roots of a tree

[Link] drainage

● pattern developed along intersecting fault lines..

● Tributaries joins the master streams at right angles.

● domes , laccoliths , batholith ,volcanic cones ,structural or intrusive domes , central elevated
tract , also called as centrifugal drainage patter

[Link] drainage pattern

● also called inland drainage pattern, opposite to radial / centrifugal drainage pattern.
● streams after emerging from surrounding upland converge in a central low land, depression ,
basin or crater lake

[Link] drainage pattern.

● also called as circular pattern

● formed when tributaries of master consequent streams are developed in the form of a circle.
● developed in dissected domes consisting of alternate hard and soft rocks
● differential erosion of hard and soft rock bed in the dome produces ringed belted structure
where relatively resistant beds project outward and softer beds form circular clefts

● due to river capture

● tributaries flow in opposite direction to their master stream

[Link] drainage pattern

● narrow valley having steep valley sides

● tributaries originating from the steep side of parallel ridges (valley sides) join the longitudinal
master consequent stream at acute angles.
[Link] drainage pattern.

● rib pattern...like the rib of human beings ..

● developed in broad valleys that have steep valley sides.
● tributaries originating from the steep side of parallel ridges(valley sides) join the longitudinal
master consequent stream at almost right angles.

[Link] drainage pattern

● uniformly sloping / dipping rock beds such as cuestas and newly emerged coastal plains
● Rivers are parallel to each other and follow the regional slope.
