GEOMORPHIC PROCESSES - ADVANCED
REVISION NOTES
1. BASIC CLASSIFICATION
geomorphic process

[Link] (land wearing force)
Exam Tip: Endogenic = Build | Exogenic = Destroy
2. ENDOGENIC PROCESSES
endogenic - diastropism, volcanism
diastropism - process that create new lanform
Types of Diastrophism:
orogenic process (by severe folding)
epeirogenic process (uplift or warping)
earthquake (local relatively minor movements)
plate techtonics (horizontal move of crustal plates)
Keyword: Stress = Force per unit area
3. EXOGENIC PROCESSES
exogenic - ( weathering, mass wasting (erosion, deposition) ) denudation process
denudation - all exo process covered under general term
erosion, depo - {by running water, ground water, glaciers water, sea waves wind }
Core Concept: movement = gradient + gravity
4. WEATHERING
weathering (mechanical disintegration & chemical decomposition)
Types: chemical | physical | biological
reason - no movement, on site, due to weather's action
5. CHEMICAL WEATHERING

Important: Limestone + Carbonation = Cave Formation
6. PHYSICAL WEATHERING
rock breaking without chemical change
Thermal expansion | frost wedging | exfoliation | salt weathering
Exam Highlight: Desert → Salt Weathering dominant
7. BIOLOGICAL WEATHERING
rock breaking by living organism: plant , animal, microbes, human
8. MASS MOVEMENT
downward movement of soil, rocks, debris - under gravity influence
Slow: Creep, Solifluction
Fast: Landslide, Rockfall, Mudflow, Avalanche
Concept: Only gravity, no external agent
