questions and answer. Is that clear class? And by the
way class, when I say “crystal” it means I’m asking
you if you understand what I am saying, and you
will answer it by saying “clear” if you really
understand what I am asking to you. Crystal?
Clear!
B. REVIEW/RECALL
Class let us recall the previous topic to know if you
learned something about what we discussed last
meeting.
Who among you still remember the previous lesson?

Very good! Ma’am about Occupational health and Safety!

Answer the questions presented then choose the

right pictures of your answer and show it in front of
the class. Crystal?
Clear!

Direction: Identify the following Personal Protective

Equipment (PPE).

1. Protection on heavy floor cleaning.

C. MOTIVATION
Before we proceed to our new lesson let us have an
activity. It is called Pictionary; you are divided into
two groups and choose one representative each
group wherein they are going to draw the thing
assigned to them and the rest students will guess
what is the picture being describe. Crystal?

What have you learned on the video?

Brilliant! According to the video that we have Proper garbage disposal ma’am
watched, Improper waste disposal or garbage
disposal is a big problem specially in the rural area.
It causes floods due to tons of garbage that bloked
the water ways. It is also affects the marine life and
polluted the bodies of water which destroys the
entire eco system. Crystal?
Clear!
In addition, plastic waste is one of many types of
waste that take too long to decompose. It takes up to
1000 years. But plastic bags we use in everyday life

D. LESSON PROPER
Our lesson for today is all about proper waste
disposal
Before we start, please read the objectives Gabriel.

1. Understand waste management.

2. Classify the wastes according to their
properties.
3. Identify the wastes according to their effects
on human health and environment
4. Enumerate the process flow of waste
management

Thank you! Those are the objectives expected to you

class at the end of the lesson.

Please read The Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999,

Kimberly. The Clean Air Act is the constitutional law designed
to make sure that all Filipinos have air that is safe to
breathe.

Thank you. It is the law which have the primary goal

to protect the environment from damage caused by
air pollution. Crystal?
Clear
Please read the next slide Angelo.
Waste Management is the collection, transport,
processing, recycling or disposal of waste materials.

Thank you Angelo. Waste management refers to the

various schemes to manage and dispose of wastes
and to reduce the amount of unusable materials and
to avert potential health and environmental hazards.

Clear!
There are two types of waste. Please read abbygail.
Solid wastes were defined as any wastes that is dry
inform and is discarded as unwanted.
Thank you abby. Solid waste can be described as
residential waste, household waste or domestic
waste. All the wastes came from the houses.
Examples are plastics, bottles, cans, papers, and
other trashes. Crystal?
Clear!

Please read the other one Ayesa.

Liquid waste defined as liquids as waste water from
different sources. These liquids that are potentially
harmful to human health or the environment.

Liquid waste refers to waste materials that appear in

the form of liquid matter. Liquid waste can become
especially challenging and hazardous when not
handled effectively, as it can cause issues due to its
ability to spread quickly and pollute large areas.
Examples are industrial waste water or water from
the factories, and floods. Same with detergent, oils,
and any other liquid wastes that is harmful in the
environment and human health. Crystal?
Clear!

Next slides are the classification of wastes according

to their properties. Please read the first one Orlando.
Biodegradable wastes are those that can be broken
down (decomposed) into their constituents’
elements by bacteria and other microorganism.
This can be applied to both liquid and solid waste.
The examples are human and animal waste, food
waste, paper, and agricultural waste. Always
remember, all wastes that were decomposed will
belong to biodegradable. Examples are fruits, left
over foods, papers, human and animal wastes, grass,
and agricultural waste like this sugar cane. Crystal?

Please read the next properties leigh anne. Non-biodegradable trash is any discarded item that
cannot be broken down by living organisms.

Thank you! Non-biodegradable is any trash that is

not decomposed. The examples are plastics, bottles,
old machines, containers, and others.
Always remember the key word here biodegradable
is decomposed while the non-biodegradable is not
decomposed.
Yes ma’am
Do you understand the difference of these two?

Okay, let us now discuss about the classification of

wastes according to their effects on human health
and the environment. Please read the first one jerico. Hazardous waste are unsafe substances used
commercially, industrially, agriculturally, or
economically.

Hazardous wastes those are the wastes contains of

chemicals which is harmful to all living things and
environment. Examples are paint, motor oil,
pesticide, drain opener, prescriptions drugs, air Clear
freshener, and batteries. Crystal?
Non-hazardous wastes are safe substances used
commercially, industrially, agriculturally, or
Please read Dean. economically.

Those are wastes which can be decomposed and not

harmful to anyone. Examples are papers, cardboard,
Clear ma’am
linings, wrappings, paper packaging materials or
absorbents. Any questions with these two?
Now I will present to you the process flow of waste
management.
The process flow refers to the 4 R’s of reduce, reuse,

waste management strategies according to their
desirability. Thus contains of proper waste disposal
or segregation.

Are you familiar with these 5? It is commonly Yes ma’am! Residuals of wastes.
indicated on the wastes or garbage bins.

That’s right! Let us start with Reduce. Lowering the Buy less ma’am
amount of wasted produced. Any idea about reduce?

Yes, very good! Reduce is limiting the purchase and Clear

minimize the amount of waste we create. Thus,
reduce is to buy less and use less. Crystal?

Using again ma’am?

Next one, Reuse refers to using the material
repeatedly. Any idea for reuse?

Very good! Reuse is the elements of the discarded

item are used again. Refers to using of one item Clear!
more than once. Crystal?

It is waste that can be use again by transforming into

new product ma’am.
How about the recycle? Using the materials to make
new products. Do you have an idea?

Brilliant! Recycle discards are separated into

materials that may be incorporated into new product. Clear
By it, the waste can be useful again and find a new
purpose. Crystal?

Converting into new energy ma’am?

Recovery? Recovering energy from waste. Any
idea?

Recovery is capturing useful material from waste to

energy programs. For examples, the animal waste Clear, ma’am
since it is producing gas or methane gas it can
convert into power generator. And since it is
biodegradable or decomposed it can convert into Clear!
fertilixer. Animal waste also produce heat it can use
as electricity. Crystal?
Other example, there are gas owners wherein they
get the gas from human and animal waste then they
convert it into gas since it is producing methane gas. Clear ma’am
They are recovering the energy from the waste.
Crystal?

Safe disposal ma’am

Last one is Landfill the safe disposal of waste to
landfill. Any idea?

Clear!
Yes, very good! It is a site where waste materials are
disposed of. Crystal?

Yes, ma’am
Do you understand the process of flow of waste
management?

Any questions? Clarifications? Or Addition None ma’am

regarding the whole lesson?

Thank you! Since you do not have any questions let

us proceed to application.
E. APPLICATION
I have here different waste materials and you are
going to pick one and put it on their right places.
Example, eco bag is it in the reduce? Reuse?
Recycle? Recovery? Or landfill?
Reuse ma’am

Very good! since it is fabric you can wash it and use

again. Let us start with Orlando and kennedy only
first to observe social distancing.

How can a young people like you help the
environment?
Applying the proper waste segregation ma’am
Very good! All our daily activities can give rise to a
large variety of different wastes arising from
different sources thus it is important to learn the
waste management in able to reduce the effect of
toxic wastes on the environment thus protection of
the environment and the health of the population.
Do you have still questions, clarifications, and
addition about the lesson?

None ma’am
Okay, before we end our discussion here is your
enrichment or assignment.
