Management Math Full Workings

The document provides worked solutions for various mathematical problems involving set theory, profit calculations, area calculations, and exponential growth. It includes formulas and step-by-step calculations for determining the number of students who like at least one drink, profit from sales, the area of a garden with a border, and fish growth over time. Key results include 190 students liking at least one drink, a profit calculation leading to 35,000 units, and a valid border measurement of 1 meter for the garden.

Management Mathematics I – Full Worked

Solutions

(e) Students who like at least one drink

Formula: n(A ∪ B) = n(A) + n(B) − n(A ∩ B)
= 120 + 140 − 70
= 190 students

(f) Survey full working

Total students = 500
None = 5% of 500 = 25
At least one = 500 − 25 = 475
Use formula: A + B + C − (AB + BC + AC) + ABC = Total
245 + 265 + 310 − (135 + 145 + 140) + x = 475
820 − 420 + x = 475
400 + x = 475
x = 75 (all three)

(h) Profit full working

Profit = Revenue − Cost
Revenue = 10x
Cost = 6x + 80,000
60,000 = 10x − (6x + 80,000)
60,000 = 4x − 80,000
140,000 = 4x
x = 35,000 units

(i) Garden full working

Total area = 4 × 8 = 32
Let border = x
Inner area = (4−2x)(8−2x) = 12
Expand: 32 − 24x + 4x² = 12
4x² − 24x + 20 = 0
x² − 6x + 5 = 0
(x−1)(x−5)=0
x = 1m (valid)

(k) Fish growth

p(t)=200×2^(t/24)
3 days = 72 hours
p(72)=200×2^(72/24)=200×2^3=1600
