other labeled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b),
(c) and (d) as given

(a) both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) both A and R are true but R is NOT the correct explanation of A
(c) A is true but R is false
(d) A is false and R is also false
16.A : The direction of velocity of an object can be reversed with constant acceleration.
R: A ball projected upward reverse its direction under the effect of gravity.
17.A : When the velocity of an object is zero at an instant, the acceleration need not to be
zero at that instant.
R : In motion under gravity, the velocity of body is zero at the top-most point.
18. A : A body moving with decreasing speed may have increased acceleration.
R : The speed of body decreases when acceleration of body is opposite to velocity.

antiparallel to velocity.

R : The speed of body decreases when acceleration of body is opposite to velocity
CASE STUDY
[Link] time rate of change of position of the object in any direction is called speed of the
object
If an object covers equal distances in equal intervals of time, then its speed is called uniform
speed andifit covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time, then its speed is called
nonuniform or variable speed. The ratio of the total distance travelled by the object to the
total time
taken is called average speed of the object. The speed may be positive or zero but never
negative.
The speed-time graph of a particle moving along a fixed direction is shown in following Fig.
(i) Distance travelled by the particle between 0 to 10 seconds
(a) 60 m (b) 50 m
(c) 120 m (d) zero

(iv) The time when speed was maximum

(d) t = 12 s
(v) Speed is positive at time interval
(a) t = 0 to t = 5 s
(b) t = 5 to t = 10 s
(c) t = 0 to t = 10 s
(d) All of these
25.2. The average velocity tells us how fast an object has been moving over a given time
interval but does not tell
us how fast it moves at different instants of time during that interval. For this, we define
instantaneous velocity
or simply velocity v at an instant t. The velocity at an instant is defined as the limit of the
average velocity as
the time interval dt becomes infinitesimally small.
In other words
v = ds/dt
The variation in velocity with time for an object moving in a straight line can be represented
by a velocity-time
graph. In this graph, time is represented along the x-axis and the velocity is represented along
the y-axis. The
area enclosed by velocity-time graph and the time axis will be equal to the magnitude of the
displacement and
slope of velocity time graph represents acceleration of object.
Answer the following questions based on paragraph given.
i) The area under velocity time graph gives
a) Displacement over given time interval c) Acceleration
b) Velocity d) None of these
ii) Slope of velocity time graph gives
a) Acceleration c) Velocity b) Distance d) Displacement.
iii) A body is thrown [Link] will be velocity and acceleration at the top
