General Instructions:
• The question paper comprises Six Sections – A, B, C, D, E and F. There are 10 questions in the Question
paper. All questions are compulsory.
• Section A – Question no 1 to 5 are objective type questions. All sub parts carry 1 mark each.
• Section B – Question no.6 (4 sub parts), are Very Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 2 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 40 words.
• Section C – Question no. 7 (6 sub parts), are Short Answer Type Questions, carrying 3 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 60 words.
• Section-D - Question no. 8 are case based questions (3 case studies) with sub questions and are of 4
marks each.
• Section E – Question no. 9 (4 sub parts), are Long Answer Type Questions, carrying 5 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 100 words.
• Section F – Question no. 10 is map based, carrying 3 marks with two parts, 10 A from History (3 marks)
and 10 B from Geography (2 marks).
• There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been provided in few
questions. Only one of the choices in such questions has to be attempted.
• In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever necessary.

i. The Mughals followed the Mughal and Timurid custom of coparcenary inheritance where the
inheritance was divided amongst all the sons.

i. Mehrunnisa married Emperor Jahangir in 1611 and received the title Nur Jahan. She remained
extremely loyal and supportive to the monarch. As a mark of honour, Jahangir struck silver coins
bearing his titles on one side and on the other, the inscription “struck in the name of Queen
Begum, Nur Jahan”.
ii. a. Troposhere-This layer is the most important layer of the atmosphere. Its average height is
13 km. The air we breathe exists here. Almost all the weather phenomena like rainfall, fog, and
hailstorms occur in this layer
b. Stratosphere extends up to a height of 50 km. This layer is almost free from clouds and
associated weather phenomena, making conditions ideal for flying airplanes. One important
feature of stratosphere is that it contains a layer of ozone gas.

party included. This is done in consultation with the Governor of the State. Once the MLAs are
ordained as ministers through the formation of the cabinet, they are allotted portfolios such as
health, law, education, etc. Thus, they become responsible for the portfolio allotted to him/her.
v. The primary factors contributing to the persistence of discrimination are as follows:
• People are aware that discrimination is against the law. Still they continue to treat unequally
on the basis of their caste, religion, disability, economics status and gender.
• It is only when people begin to believe that no one is inferior and that every person deserves
to be treated with dignity, attitudes change.
• Establishing equality in a democratic society is a continuous struggle.

vi. Abul Fazl wrote a three-volume history of Akbar’s reign, titled Akbar Nama. The first volume
dealt with Akbar’s ancestors and the second volume recorded the events of Akbar’s reign.
The third volume is the Ain-i Akbari. It deals with Akbar’s administration, household, army,
the revenues and the geography of his empire. It also provides rich details about the traditions
and culture of the people living in India. The most interesting aspect about the Ain-i Akbari
is its rich statistical details about things as diverse as crops, yields, prices, wages and revenue

a. The atmosphere is composed of several gases like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, helium,
ozone, argon, and hydrogen. It also includes dust particles and water vapour.
b. Nitrogen- Nitrogen is the most plentiful gas in the air. Plants need nitrogen for their survival.
Bacteria, which live in the soil and roots of some plants, take nitrogen from the air and change
its form so that plants can use it.

Oxygen- Oxygen is the second most plentiful gas in the air. Humans and animals take oxygen
from the air as they breathe. Green plants produce oxygen during photosynthesis.
ii. The term ‘Mansabdar’ refers to an individual who holds a mansab, meaning a position or

rank.
The Mansabdari system was a grading system used by the Mughals to fix rank, fix
salary, fix military responsibilities.
• Rank and salary were determined by a numerical value called zat.
• The mansabdar’s military responsibilities required him to maintain a specified number
of sawar or cavalrymen.
• The mansabdar brought his cavalrymen for review, got the registered, their horses
branded and then received money to pay them as salary.
iii. Every state in India has a Legislative Assembly. Each state is divided into different areas or
constituencies. From each constituency, the people elect one representative who then becomes a 5
Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). People stand for elections in the name of different
parties. These MLAs, therefore, belong to different political parties. A political party whose
MLAs have won more than half the number of constituencies in a state can be said to be in a
majority. The political party that has the majority forms the government. In case no party gains
the majority, in that case the party with maximum elected members tries to get support from
different parties or candidates. The party that proves to have maximum supporters is allowed to
form the government. If no party proves the majority then there would be re-election.
iv. The rhythmic rise and fall of ocean water twice in a day is called a tide. The strong
gravitational pull exerted by the sun and the moon on the earth’s surface causes the tides. (1+1+3=5)
• High tides help in navigation. They raise the water level close to the shores. This helps the
ships to arrive at the harbour more easily.
• The high tides also help in fishing. Many more fish come closer to the shore during the high
tide. This enables fishermen to get a plentiful catch.
• The rise and fall of water due to tides is being used to generate electricity in some places
