Activity #1
Multicultural Communication Interview Activity”

I. Objective:
By the end of this activity, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of the three forms of intercultural communication
(interracial/interethnic, international, and intercultural).
2. Apply communication skills in real-world intercultural contexts.
3. Reflect on challenges encountered and strategies for improving intercultural competence.

II. Group Arrangement:


The class will be divided into 4 groups.

III. Instructions:
a. Identify Interviewees: Each group will conduct two interviews, focusing on Interracial or
Interethnic Communication and International Communication.
b. Interview Questions: Each group will ask the following questions.
 Can you tell us about your cultural background and how it influences your way of
communicating? How do you usually express respect or politeness in your culture?
 Have you ever experienced difficulty communicating with someone from a different
race, ethnicity, or nationality? What happened? Be Specific.
 What values or behaviors do you think are often misunderstood in your culture?

IV. Conduct the Interview:


Each group should record or take notes of the conversation (audio, video, or written transcript).
Ensure respectful and ethical communication at all times.

V. Synthesize Findings:
1. What challenges did your group encounter during the interview?
2. How did these challenges reflect differences in cultural norms or communication styles?
3. What strategies did you use to overcome these barriers?
4. How has this activity changed your perception of intercultural communication?
5. What can you personally do to improve your intercultural communication competence

Vi. Class Presentation:

Each group will prepare a presentation summarizing the outcome of their interview. And will
be given at least 5 minutes to share it with the class.
