The proliferation of contemporary lifestyles has brought about several controversial
debates. For instance, they are wondering whether the explosion of social media such as
Facebook or Whatsapp leads to positive impacts or not. Personally, both sides contain valid
arguments, which will be demonstrated below.
On a positive note, it can be recognized that there are several advantages relating to this
situation. Firstly, one major benefit is that using social networking is the most efficient way
to connect people all over the world. Indeed, due to the fact that the development of those
websites brings the huge globe much closer, a person just holding a small smartphone
accessed internet can internationally communicate and do a lot of useful things to their
lives, such as making friendship with foreigners, contacting with overseas companies,
advertising products to other countries without any barriers like that was in the past,
participating in international groups to read news, learn about cultures and languages or
even take opportunity to go abroad. In addition, another advantage is that owning an
online account can create a place just like a small house for people to share their feelings
and statuses, which also helps them entertain themselves and share experiences to their
friends. Besides, online users can have chance to build up their personal images as they
wish thank to those products they purchase or luxury places they come to. For instance, an
Internet application named Instagram becomes one of the most popular worldwide uses to
update user’s daily stories, post their favorite photos or quotes as well as look for on-trend
things.
Moving on, several detrimental impacts can be identified. To start with, one unfavorable
aspect is that most online users spend much time using social networking and gradually
become addictive, which leads to many other negative consequences. According to a
research on [Link] in 2018, “210 million people are estimated to suffer from
Internet & social media addictions”. Besides, taking too much time to surf internet also
causes depression, lack of sleeping, reducing concentration ability or even accidents in
traffic. Moreover, another drawback could be those online users tend to lose the
interaction with their real relationships. Indeed, since texting a message does not need to
be face-to-face, communication skills such as small talk become so hard for them.
Therefore, many people, especially the young, gradually lack sensitivity to maintain and
strengthen their real relationship network which plays a vital role in their lives later.
All in all, it is clear that this phenomenon includes a wide range of both positive and
negative elements. However, I wholeheartedly believe that the development of social
networking enhance much pros than cons if online users know how to limit their time and
set up discipline for themselves.
