Role and Function as an MFT

As an MFT it is important to highlight the intrapsychic experiences of the individuals while


addressing the family system. There’s an art to the balanced act of being attentive toward
someone as needed and making sure the family knows that the family is the client.

Therapies of interest:

- Narrative Family Therapy


- Cognitive therapy
- Couples Counseling

Specific populations of interest:

- Families dealing with grief and loss


- Children/families of divorce

Post-Masters Training and Supervision (requirements)

- LMFT License
o Master’s degree: 3k hours of clinical experience
o 2 hours of supervision per 40 hours worked
o License Renewal: 30 hours of continuing education courses
