Example: A Typical School Day
Every day I wake up at 6:30 in the morning. I turn off my alarm and get up. Then I
take a shower and brush my teeth. After that, I have breakfast — I usually drink a
glass of milk.
I pack my backpack and leave home at 7:15. I go to school by bus. I attend classes
from 8:00 to 2:00. I have lunch at school with my friends.
In the afternoon, I go back home and do my homework. Sometimes I play video games
or watch TV. At night, I have dinner with my family. I go to bed at 10:00 p.m.
Tip: Notice that all the verbs in the example are in Simple Present tense. They describe
things that happen every day — habits and routines!

PART 2 — SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE: Rules
When do we use the Simple Present?
1. To talk about habits and daily routines:
I wake up at 7 every day.
2. To talk about general facts and truths:
The sun rises in the east.
3. To talk about things that are always true:
Dogs are loyal animals.
4. With frequency adverbs (always, usually, sometimes, never. . . ):
She always brushes her teeth after lunch.
