Through appeals of ethos and logos the video defends immigration in America by
showing that immigrants contribute to jobs businesses and economic growth within the states
which encourages the audience to rethink negative views about immigrants. These appeals are
important due to the fact most debates about immigration often involve fear and misinformation
which makes credibility and factual evidence important for persuasion.
In claim three the speaker mainly uses ethos to build credibility by sharing personal
experience as an immigrant business owner. He states, “I am an immigrant and an American”
and explaining that they employ American citizens the speaker presents themself as someone
who understands the issue firsthand. This strategy is meant to show the audience that immigrants
are not outsiders but active contributors to the country. The speaker also uses logos by
referencing the 14th Amendment unemployment statistics and data from the Congressional
Budget Office. These facts are used to challenge emotional fears about immigrants taking jobs
and harming the economy. Rhetorical questions like asking whether immigrants are Americans
push the opposing speaker to examine contradictions in their argument.
The purpose of these strategies is to bring the discussion away from such emotional and
personal reactions or frustration and toward facts and shared national values. By using
constitutional language and statistics. The speaker tries to show that immigration is not just a

personal opinion, but something supported by law and economic research. This approach helps
the audience understand that defining who is American goes beyond where someone is born and
includes naturalized citizens who contribute to society. The speaker also aims to reduce fear by
explaining how immigrants create jobs pay taxes and grow the economy instead of taking
opportunities away from others. The effect on the audience is that they are encouraged to
question stereotypes about immigrants and think more critically about how immigration affects
the country. Overall, these strategies push listeners to see immigration as a benefit to America
rather than a threat to its people or its economy.
If I were the author of this argument my final takeaway would be that immigration
strengthens America and that decisions about immigrants should be based on facts constitutional
values and real economic data rather than fear or misunderstanding. Ultimately argument proves
that when immigration is seen through facts and constitutional values it becomes clear that
immigrants help shape a stronger and more successful America.
