Crisp set

Meaning of 𝝁𝑨 (𝒙): The membership function, 𝝁𝑨 (𝒙), quantifies how much an element 𝒙 ∈

In the crisp set, two options are available: 𝑌𝐸𝑆 (100%) or 𝑁𝑂(0%)
• 𝜇𝐴(𝑎) = 1  Element 𝑎 entirely belongs to a set A is 100%
• 𝜇𝐴(𝑏) = 0  Element 𝑏 entirely belongs to a set A is 0% (not belong to A)

FUZZY PROPOSITION LOGIC

1. Clear proposition
 Clear proposition (mệnh đề rõ): is a statement that has only one of two possibilities: TRUE or FALSE
(meaning CLEAR INFOMATION)
 P is clear proposition, then True value of proposition is signed by T(P), (T=TRUE, P=PROPOSITION,
do not mistake T with operator T)
 Example:
 P : room temperature is smaller than 30 degC
If room temperature = 25[oC]  T(P) = 1
If room temperature = 37[oC]  T(P) = 0
 P : Speed of a Car is smaller than 45 kilometers/hour
If Speed = 30km/h  T(P) = 1
If Speed = 50km/h  T(P) = 0

 Fuzzy proposition (mệnh đề mờ): is a statement that contain unclear information
 Example:
“Room temperature” is “high”
“Liquid level” of a Tank is “low”
“Speed” of a Car is “fast”
 General Fuzzy proposition is defined by statement as: “Linguistic variable” is “Linguistic value”
𝐱 𝑨
Fuzzy proposition is signed by: 𝑷: 𝐱 ∈ 𝑨
Example:

 Fuzzy set 𝑨 is used to quantify “Linguistic value” in fuzzy proposition

 True value of fuzzy proposition: 𝐓 𝑷 = 𝝁𝑨 𝒙 ∈ [𝟎, 𝟏]
 Note: True value of fuzzy proposition 𝑷: 𝐱 ∈ 𝑨 is dependent possibility of 𝒙 in Fuzzy set 𝑨

value of condition proposition.

Mechatronics Engineering – Intelligent Control 41 © Ha Le Nhu Ngoc Thanh, Ph.D.

FUZZY INFERENCE
2. Fuzzy Inference

Principle of fuzzy inference: Compute True value of condition proposition, subsequently infer
true value of conclude proposition, and this value do not larger the True value of condition
proposition

2. Method of Fuzzy Inference

Using principle of fuzzy inference, the conclusion

condition proposition. Thus using set of 𝛽 − 𝑐𝑢𝑡

FUZZY INFERENCE

FUZZY INFERENCE
4. Fuzzy Inference based on impact fuzzy rule
 In some cases, the set of fuzzy with many rules, computing α , α , … , β , β …,is very complicated
and confused. Thus, we only concern impact rules.
 Impact rules are the rules that the True value of the condition proposition is larger than zero
(𝛽 > 0 ⟺ min{𝛼 , 𝛼 , … 𝛼 } > 0 ⟺ 𝛼 ≠ 0).

Example 3: set of Fuzzy includes 9 rules

Mechatronics Engineering – Intelligent Control 49 © Ha Le Nhu Ngoc Thanh, Ph.D.

FUZZY INFERENCE
Example 4: Given 6 fuzzy rules as follows
R1: If x1 is LO and x2 is NE, then y is VH
R2: If x1 is LO and x2 is ZE, then y is HI
R3: If x1 is LO and x2 is PO, then y is ME
R4: If x1 is HI and x2 is NE, then y is ME
R5: If x1 is HI and x2 is ZE, then y is LO
R6: If x1 is HI and x2 is PO, then y is VL

Question:
Given x1 = 6, x2 = -10. Let draw a result of fuzzy inference in two cases using MAX-MIN and MAX-PROD

1. Preprocessor (bộ tiền xử lý)
 Input signal of preprocessor is crisp value from sensor/measurement system
 Preprocessor is used to:
 ADC

3. Fuzzy Rule-based (hệ quy tắc mờ cơ bản)
 Fuzzy rule-based can be considered as mathematical models representing human knowledge
and experience in solving problems in the form of linguistic statements.
 Two fuzzy rule-based systems:
1. Mamdani
2. Sugeno
 Mamdani rule is a fuzzy rule where the conclusion statement is a fuzzy proposition.

 Ex:
i. If “error” is “large” and “velocity” is “small”, then “voltage” is “medium”.
ii. If “error angle” is “small negative” and “angular rate” is “small positive”, then “control voltage” is
zero

 Sugeno rule is a fuzzy rule where the conclusion proposition is a function of input variables.

 Ex:
If “error (e)” is “large” and “velocity (v)” is “small”, then 𝑢 = 5𝑒 + 𝑣 .

implies that find 𝑦.

 Defuzzification for Sugeno model

In fuzzy inference:
• In the Mamdani model, fuzzy rules are combined using the MAX operator before defuzzification.
• In the Sugeno model, fuzzy rules are not combined using the MAX operator before defuzzification;
instead, the output is computed as the weighted average of each rule’s consequent.
