2. The topic of my presentation today is how Tet is celebrated
differently in various regions of Vietnam.
3. My presentation is divided into three main parts: the opening, the
main points, and the closing remarks. Now, let me start with the
opening.
4. Tet, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the most important
traditional festival in Vietnam. It marks not only the beginning of a
new year but also a special time for family reunion and cultural
reflection. Although Tet is celebrated nationwide, the ways people
celebrate it are different in each region, mainly because of
differences in climate, history, and culture.
5. In Northern Vietnam, Tet is celebrated in a traditional and rather
formal way. Families spend a lot of time preparing banh chung, a
square sticky rice cake that symbolizes the earth, and decorating
their homes with peach blossoms. Ancestor worship is very
important, as many people believe that honoring their ancestors will
bring good luck in the new year. In addition, Northerners pay special
attention to the first visitor of the year, who is believed to affect the
family’s fortune.
6. In Central Vietnam, Tet shows the region’s strong sense of
responsibility and endurance. Due to difficult weather conditions,
people often prepare food carefully in advance and choose dishes
that can be kept for several days. Traditional food is usually salty
and spicy, which reflects the simple but hardworking lifestyle of
local people. During Tet, families focus on making offerings to
ancestors in order to express gratitude and pray for safety.
7. In contrast, Tet in Southern Vietnam is more relaxed and lively.
People usually prepare banh tet, which has a cylindrical shape, and
decorate their houses with yellow apricot blossoms symbolizing
happiness and prosperity. The festive atmosphere is cheerful and
open, as people believe that optimism and joy can bring good luck.
Therefore, social visits and community activities play an important
role during Tet.
8. In conclusion, while Tet is a common festival for all Vietnamese
people, the way it is celebrated differs from region to region. These
differences not only reflect regional culture but also make Tet more
meaningful and colorful. Tet therefore remains a valuable tradition
that connects generations and communities across Vietnam.
