Opening / Welcome Remarks

Good morning everyone!

Welcome to our Disaster Preparedness Seminar, focused on earthquake and flood

awareness. It’s amazing to see all of you here fellow students and instructors from Davao
Doctors College, Inc. ready to learn and prepare for something that can affect all of us, at
any time.

The Philippines is no stranger to natural disasters. Every year, typhoons, floods, and
earthquakes challenge our safety, our homes, and our communities. Just last October 2025,
a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the Davao Region, affecting thousands of families and
damaging schools and homes. And only last week, Typhoon Tino brought heavy rains and
flooding across Visayas and Mindanao, displacing thousands. These events remind us that
disasters don’t wait and neither should we.

Even here in Davao City, recent events have shown us that preparedness is not optional, it
saves lives! Quick emergency responses, drills, and safety measures are not just
procedures; they are the difference between safety and chaos, between survival and
tragedy.

This seminar is our chance to learn exactly what to do before, during, and after earthquakes
and floods. It’s a chance to think, act, and be ready, so we can protect ourselves, our
families, and our communities. Each one of us has a role to play and it starts today.

So let’s make the most of this seminar, listen closely, participate actively, and take these
lessons seriously. The knowledge we gain today could one day mean the difference between
life and loss when disaster strikes.

Once again, welcome to our Disaster Preparedness Seminar! Let’s stay alert, stay ready,
and stay safe. Thank you!

Q&A - Perceptions of students about Disaster Preparedness (Emcees)

Host 1: Before we officially start the seminar proper, let’s warm up the room with a fun
icebreaker to get everyone energized and thinking about disaster preparedness!

Host 2: Alright, here’s the first question: “If a disaster happened right now, what’s the first
thing you’d grab — and it cannot be your phone?”

Host 1: Next one: “You can choose one fictional character to help you during a disaster —
who would it be and why?” Think superheroes, movie characters, cartoons — anything goes!

Host 2: Here’s a tricky one: “If you could turn one everyday item into a survival tool during a
disaster, what would it be?”
Host 1: And finally: “You have 60 seconds to form a ‘disaster squad’ from the people in this
room. Who do you pick and why?”

Host 2: Wow! Thank you, everyone, for participating and sharing your creative ideas!
