WHAT IS ID ?
• Intelligent Design (ID) theory postulates
that the weight of evidence suggests that
life on Earth cannot have had a random
origin, that is, an origin by chance alone.
It must have been intelligently
designed.
• Current evolution theories, on the other
hand, propose that the universe was not
designed, but is rather the product of
undirected chance. Therefore, ID
proponents argue that the relevant
degree of complexity could not and
does not develop by chance.

HOW BY CHANCE ?
• A system is irreducibly complex if it is
“composed of several well-matched,
interacting parts that contribute to a
basic function, wherein the removal of
any of the parts causes the system to
effectively cease functioning.” (Behe, 39)
