𝐷 = { 𝑥 ∶ 𝑥 𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑛 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑒𝑟 𝑠𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑥 2 = 8 }
𝐸 = { 𝑥 ∶ 𝑥 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑜𝑏𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑑 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑒 𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒}

2. Use set-builder notation to describe each of these sets.

𝐴 = { 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 }
𝐵 = { −2 , −1 , 0 , 1 , 2 }
𝐶 = { 1 , 8 , 27 , 64 , 125 }
𝐷 = {−4 , 4}

3. Use interval notation to describe each set below

𝐴 = { 𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ 𝑥 > −1 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥 ≤ 50 }
𝐵 = { 𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ 𝑥 < −2 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥 > 1 }
𝐶 = { 𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ 3𝑥 + 2 ≤ 4 }
𝐷 = { 𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ 3 ≤ 2𝑥 + 5 < 10}
𝐸 = { 𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ |𝑥| < 3 }
𝐹 = { 𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ |𝑥 + 5| < −1 }
𝐺 = { 𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ |4𝑥 − 3| < 18 }
**𝐻 = {𝑥 ∈ ℝ ∶ |𝑥 − 4| + |𝑥 + 1| ≤ 10}

4. Use Venn Diagram to illustrate the set of all months of the year whose names do not contain the letter R in
the set of all months of the year.

5. Determine whether each pair of sets are equal.

a. {1 , 2 , 2 , 3} , {3 , 2 , 1}
b. {1 , 1 , 3} , { 3 , 3 , 1}
c. {𝑥 ∶ 𝑥 2 + 𝑥 = 2} , {1 , −1}
d. {𝑥 ∶ 𝑥 ∈ ℝ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 0 < 𝑥 ≤ 2} , {1 , 2}

6. **Determine whether each of these statements are true or false.

a. 0 ∈ ∅ g. {∅} ∈ {{∅}}
b. ∅ ∈ { } h. {{∅}} ⊂ {∅, {∅}}
c. ∅ ⊆ {∅} i. 0 ∈ {{0}}
d. {0} ⊂ {0} {∅} ∈ {∅}
j.
e. {∅} ⊆ {∅}
k. ∅ ∈ {𝑥}
f. {∅} ⊂ {∅, {∅}} l. {𝑥} ∈ {𝑥}
