REVIEW OF LITERATURE

A literature review is a systematic and descriptive study of earlier research and
published material related to a specific topic. It includes the review of books,
journals, research papers, articles, theses, and other scholarly sources. The main
purpose of a literature review is to understand the work already done in the
selected area of study.
It helps the researcher to gain knowledge about the depth, scope, and direction of
previous studies. Through the review of literature, the researcher can identify
research gaps, avoid duplication of work, and decide suitable research methods. It
also provides a strong theoretical foundation and helps in sharpening the focus of
the present research.

THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE EXPLAINS HOW A REVIEW OF
LITERATURE IS WRITTEN.
Sharma (2019) conducted an in-depth study on the relationship between employee
motivation and organizational performance, with a specific focus on the role of financial
and non-financial incentives. The study revealed that monetary incentives such as salary
increments, bonuses, and performance-based rewards significantly enhance employees’
willingness to perform efficiently. In addition, non-financial incentives including
recognition, job satisfaction, career growth opportunities, and a supportive work
environment were found to have a strong positive influence on employee morale and
commitment. The findings further indicated that motivated employees exhibit higher
levels of productivity, lower absenteeism, and improved job performance. The study
emphasized that organizations that adopt a balanced motivation strategy are more likely
to achieve sustainable growth, improved efficiency, and a competitive advantage in the
long run.

3.1 Type of Research
It refers to the nature of the study being conducted. It explains how the research is
carried out and what kind of information is being collected, such as descriptive,
exploratory, analytical, or causal research.
3.2 Sampling Design
Sampling design means the plan or procedure used to select a sample from the
total population for the study. It explains who is selected, how many are selected,
and how they are selected.
3.2.1 Population of the Study
Population refers to the entire group of individuals or elements about whom the
researcher wants to draw conclusions. It includes all possible respondents relevant
to the research topic.
3.2.2 Sampling Unit – The basic element selected for observation (e.g.,
individual employees, customers, branches).
3.2.3 Sample Size
Sample size means the number of respondents actually selected from the
population for data collection. It should be sufficient to represent the population
accurately.
3.2.4 Sampling Technique
Sampling technique refers to the method used to choose respondents from the
population, such as random sampling, convenience sampling, stratified sampling,
etc.
3.3 Sources of Data
Sources of data indicate where the information is obtained from for the study.
Data can be collected directly or from already available sources.
3.3.1 Primary Data
Primary data is the original data collected first-hand by the researcher directly
from respondents for the specific purpose of the study.
3.3.2 Secondary Data
Secondary data is the data already collected and published by others and used by
the researcher for reference and support.
3.4 Tools of Analysing Data
These are the statistical and analytical methods used to interpret the collected data
and convert raw data into meaningful information.
