Science Practical File Class10

The document outlines three experiments: identifying acids and bases using indicators, demonstrating the necessity of sunlight for photosynthesis, and verifying Ohm's Law. Each experiment includes aims, materials, procedures, observations, results, and precautions. The experiments illustrate fundamental concepts in chemistry, biology, and physics.

Experiment 1: Chemistry - Identification of Acids

and Bases
Aim: To identify whether the given substances are acidic or basic using indicators.

Materials Required: Blue litmus paper, red litmus paper, phenolphthalein, methyl orange, test
tubes, dilute HCl, NaOH solution.

Procedure: Take two test tubes and add HCl in one and NaOH in another. Dip blue litmus in acid
and red litmus in base. Add phenolphthalein and methyl orange and observe changes.

Observation: Blue litmus turns red in acid. Red litmus turns blue in base. Phenolphthalein turns
pink in base. Methyl orange turns red in acid.

Result: Acids and bases can be identified using indicators by their color change.

Precautions: Handle chemicals carefully. Use clean droppers. Do not mix chemicals.
Experiment 2: Biology - Photosynthesis
Aim: To show that sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis.

Materials Required: Potted plant, black paper, clips, iodine solution, alcohol, beaker.

Procedure: Cover part of a leaf with black paper and keep plant in sunlight. Boil leaf in water and
alcohol. Add iodine solution.

Observation: Exposed part turns blue-black while covered part shows no change.

Result: Sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis.

Precautions: Do not heat alcohol directly. Handle leaf carefully.

Experiment 3: Physics - Ohm’s Law
Aim: To verify Ohm’s Law.

Apparatus Required: Battery, resistor, ammeter, voltmeter, wires.

Procedure: Connect circuit with ammeter in series and voltmeter in parallel. Note readings for
different voltages.

Observation: Current increases with voltage. Graph is a straight line.

Result: Ohm’s Law is verified (V ∝ I).

Precautions: Ensure proper connections. Do not keep circuit on for long.
