Electrical Machine Assignment

The document presents an electrical machine assignment with five questions requiring detailed calculations and explanations. Questions involve determining magnetic flux in a core, induced voltage in a moving wire, calculating primary current and efficiency of a transformer, listing advantages of autotransformers, and explaining the short circuit test in transformers. Each question is designed to assess understanding of electrical principles and transformer operations.

Electrical machine assignment.

Show all the necessary steps for each of the following questions clearly (20 Pts).

Q1, A two-legged core is shown in Figure below. The winding on the left leg of the core (N1)
has 400 turns, and the winding on the right (N2) has 300 turns. The coils are wound in the
directions shown in the figure. If the dimensions are as shown, then what flux would be
produced by currents i1 = 0.5 A and i2 = 0.75 A?
Assume μr = 1000 and constant.

Q2, The wire is shown in Figure below is moving in the presence of a magnetic field. With
the information given in the figure, determine the magnitude and direction of the induced
voltage in the wire.
Q3, The secondary winding of a transformer has a terminal voltage of vs (t) = 282.8 sin 377t
V. The turns ratio of the transformer is 100:200 (a = 0.50). If the secondary current of the
transformer is i s(t) = 7.07 sin (377t- 36.87º) A , what is the primary current of this
transformer? What are its voltage regulation and efficiency? The impedances of this
transformer referred to the primary side are
Req = 0.20Ω Rc = 300Ω
X eq = 0.750Ω X m = 80Ω
Q4, Write at least four advantages of an Autotransformer compared with a two winding
transformer.
Q5, why does the short circuit test essentially show only i 2R losses not excitation losses in a
transformer?
