5. A 250 KVA, 11000/415 volts, 50 Hz single phase transformer has 80 turns on the secondary.
Calculate i) Rated primary and secondary currents ii) Number of primary turns iii) Maximum
value of flux in the core iv) Voltage induced/turn on secondary. ( 6 marks)
6. A single phase 25 KVA transformer has 1000 primary turns and 2500 secondary turns. The net
cross sectional area of the core is 100 (cm) 2, when the primary winding is connected to a
550V, 50 Hz supply. Calculate: i) maximum value of flux density in the core ii) voltage induced in
the secondary winding iii) primary and secondary full load currents
7. Primary winding of a transformer is connected to a 240V, 50Hz. The secondary winding has
1500 turns and the maximum value of core flux is 0.00207 Wb. Find secondary induced emf,
number of turns in primary and cross sectional area of core, if maximum value of flux density is
0.465 Tesla.
8. A single phase 50Hz transformer has net cross sectional area of 30cm2. The permissible
maximum flux density in the core is 0.5wb/m2. Calculate the number of turns per limb on the high
and low voltage sides of a 3000/220V ratio.
3 PHASE SYSTEMS

different voltages and currents in each type

4. When a three phase balanced impedances are connected in star, across a three phase, 415V,
50Hz supply, the line current drawn is 20A, at a lagging p.f of 0.4. Determine the parameters of
the impedance in each phase. (6 marks)
5. A balanced star connected load of (8+j6) ohms per phase is connected to a 3-phase 230V
supply. Find the current, power, power factor, reactive volt-ampere and total volt-ampere
6. A balanced three-phase, delta-connected load is fed from a 400V, three-phase, 50Hz supply.
The current per phase is 25A (lagging), and the total active power absorbed by the load is
13.856kW. Determine (i) constants (resistance, inductance/capacitance) and impedance of the
load per phase (ii) the total reactive power (iii) the total apparent power.
7. A balanced three-phase, star-connected load of 150kW takes a leading line current of 100A from
a 1100V, 50Hz, three phase supply. Determine the constants (resistance,
inductance/capacitance) of the load per phase
8. A 3 phase delta connected load has in each phase a series combination of 12Ω resistor and a
capacitive reactance of 9Ω. The load is connected to a 3 phase supply of 415V, 50Hz. Find the
line current, phase current, line voltage, phase voltage, power factor and power drawn from the
supply.
