PROJECT NAME : IOT based Circuit Breaker Using NODE-

MCU(ESP-8266)

BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF PROJECT :

The growing demand for intelligent and safe electrical infrastructure has led to the innovation of
smart circuit protection systems. This project proposes the design and implementation of an
IoT-enabled automatic circuit breaker using NodeMCU ESP8266 as the core microcontroller.
The system offers real-time current sensing, automated fault detection (overload and short-
circuit), and remote control through platforms like Blynk or Arduino IoT Cloud. A key
objective is to enhance lineman safety by allowing authorized personnel to remotely disable
power before maintenance, reducing the risk of electrical accidents. The solution integrates
current sensors, relay drivers, and cloud communication to monitor load conditions and trigger
breaker operation when needed. Visual indicators such as LEDs and an LCD screen provide
status updates locally. This smart breaker not only supports proactive fault response but also
improves operational transparency and user control. The system delivers a cost-effective,
scalable, and modern alternative to conventional manual circuit protection methods.
Objectives:
1. Design and implement a NodeMCU ESP8266-based IoT circuit breaker system.
2. Enable remote monitoring and control via a smartphone application.
3. Implement automatic tripping for overcurrent, short-circuit, and overvoltage conditions.
4. Provide real-time load data and alerts through the cloud.
5. Ensure system safety using electrical isolation and fail-safe operation.
