Production Process
The production process refers to the making stages involved with producing a media
product. The three key stages in the production process are pre production,
production and post production.
● Pre - Production - The pre-production is in stages. Research and the
planning of the production.
● Production - The production stage is involved in producing and making the
materials of the process.
● Post-Production - The post-production is in stages in the final pieces which
involves construction, editing and finale touches.
Magazine Production Equipment and software
The three main specialised equipment plus software needed to make a magazine
are: DSLR Camera , Photoshop plus Desktop publishing software.
DSLR Camera
A DSLR Camera is a digital camera that can take good quality
photographs with different settings to give the photograph a visual
effect. A DSLR Camera can take photos as a motion shot in real
life, it has a large lens to get the full photo and it also offers
manual controls such as aperture and shutter speed to make a
visual photograph that can be used for a magazine cover or
magazine articles. It can be bought from Currys or from amazon it
costs up to nearly £294.99 pounds.

Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is a digital software where you can do image
manipulation by editing images with filters, edit brightness, add
filters and effects, background removal, 3D text, double exposer,
add a blur, crop plus size and text to your edited images. You can
also do graphic designs to create and manipulate your images.
This software can also be used to help you to layout text based
products such as magazine articles plus pages, it costs up to £262.51 for you to use

Desktop Publishing Software
This desktop publishing software is a type of application website
where it allows its users to create visually rich documents where
you can design newsletters, flyers, magazines and books to
provide layout design typography and image manipulation. The
desktop publishing software is needed for magazine production
because it is due to its essentials for the magazine production to its
ability to create professional quality layouts which are managed by
complex designers.

Magazine Production Process
Pre Production - Content
In the pre - production content stage this where the editorial team meet and
discuss ideas about the content. The editor will also assign articles to the writers,
the writers will then start to plan out and research for their articles.
This stage is important because all of the content decisions are being made plus
roles and responsibilities for their article that they will be producing.

Pre Production - Flat Planning
The pre production flat plan is a layout of pages after pages to show each article of
the magazine. The editing team would allow them to arrange, discuss and order
the layout of their essentials for their magazine while also adjusting the length and
layout. With them also introducing the text and images that they will be using in
their articles.
Production
The production process is where the production team will be looking into with
research, articles written and photoshoots taken place for their article. If they need
a photo that they can’t take themselves for their article they would have to archive
it from somewhere else for a specific reason.

Production - Writing and Sub - Editing
The writing and sub stage is where the editor will check all of the magazines page
articles for any spelling and grammatical errors in their work, if the article is too
long the sub editor will cut it down or will ask the writer to cut it down for them. If it
is too long then the editor will ask the writer to write more for that article in the
magazine. In this stage desktop publishing software like quark is being used to edit
and create where the magazine pages are going to be placed.
Post Production- Checking Printers Proof
The post production process is where they complete all of the pages for their
magazine and get it taken to publishers. The publishers make a mock up of the
magazine and then send it back to the editors before being published.

Post Production - Competition and Distribution
This is where the editors will approve on the magazine pages the editors will then
print out all of the final magazine pages and get it assembled before being sent off.

Magazine photographer: They are incharge of planning and taking photos for their
magazine content so they are in charge of taking the photos,editing the photos and
also selecting the right photos for their magazine that will appeal to the audience.
This is to ensure that all the photos that they use in their photoshoots and pieces of
work they use must be capturing the audience with their photos capturing
settings,people and editing them with strong elements to impress the audience.
Magazine writter: They are in charge of writing up and creating the content that will
be read and scene by their audience so it must be appropriate and appealing to the
audience. They are also responsible for researching all of the information and also
writing news articles and features such as proofread what they have written to make
sure it sounds appropriate for their magazine. This to ensure that all of the written
work for their magazine is appropriate pieces of information which is scene as
appealing and also have an a range of topics and subjects that will interest the
readers of the magazine.
Sub-editor : A sub-editor will be the one who plays a crucial role in ensuring the
qualities and accuracy of written content is perfect for the magazine. This is to
ensure that the information is reliable and the grammar and spelling is all correct.
They will also collaborate with the editors and designers to engage readers and to
also enhance overall presentation of the content.
