Relevance:
The course helps to understand various aspects of design and orient them towards design
learning. It sensitizes design students to learn their immediate surroundings and help them to
make a connection between design and environment. It introduces students to design pedagogy
and teaching-learning system through the course experience.
Objectives:
● The objective is to introduce students to design through learning by doing, learning by
observation & perception and learning by thinking.
● Students will experience thinking patterns such as reflective thinking, critical thinking, relative
thinking etc and understand how to express their ideas through tangible forms.
Course Contents:
The course, will help in orienting the students to :
● Design and Culture
● Design and Nature
● Design and Society
● Design and Material etc.
Methodology:
The methodology is primarily based on hands on experience through assignments, field visits and
discussions.
Evaluation Criteria:
● Conceptual Clarity and Comprehension: Level of understanding and comprehension, linking
new learning to the existing knowledge for better organization of information. Ability to
understand concepts comprehensively, remember and articulate them. 20
● Exploration & Improvisation: Ability to inquire or investigate thoroughly in order to learn or
discover. Diversity and range of explorations. Ability to perform extempore. 30
● Problem Solving & Lateral Thinking: Ability to adopt a methodological approach to solve
design problems. Attitude to think on a broader framework and correlate such thoughts to own
