The bar graph shows how much the proportion of school children taught to play four
kinds of musical instruments: guitar, piano, drum and violin from 2005 to 2015.
Overall, there were increases to varying extents in the percentage of students learning 4
various musical instruments between 2005 to 2015, except for the figures for violin
which witnessed a minimal reduction in 2010 . In addition, the percentage of playing
guitar was consistently the most prevalence of instrument for school children.
Looking at first kind of instruments with significant data, Guitar emerged as a top of the
percentage of children choosing to learn, beginning at over 10% in 2005, after which it
experienced a significant increase to approximately 27% in 2015. A similar change was
seen in the figure for piano which commenced at 10% in 2005, following by a
substantial increasing to 25% in 2015. The percentage of school children learning to
play piano claimed the second position in the below chart.
Turning to instruments with lower figures, around 6% was seen in the proportion of
children choosing drum to learn in 2005, with subsequent stability in 2010. 5 years later,
a final slight growth to around 7% in the percentage of children studying to play drum.
Meanwhile, the figure for violin started at approximately 7% in 2005 , following by
stability 5 years later. In the final of ther surveyed period, the slight decline in the data of
drum was seen, decreasing to about 6%.
One school of thought holds that schools are likely unnecessary because children can
gain more benefits from learning from the internet and be educated at home. While
acknowledging the reasons for this thinking, I would disagree that aforementioned view.
On the one the hand, it is understandable why some people advocate for this view. One
reason is that learning from internet and be educated at home are more convenient than
learning at school. This is because children do not have to go to school early in every
morning. It might save cost and time of transportation and provide enough sleeping
duration for children to ensure good academic achievements. Moreover, this learning
allows parents and their children to select their subjects and build studying plan by
themselves according to their children’s learning ability and future career. As a result,
learning from the internet and self - learning at home might provide the best
opportunities for children of freely well - rounded development and not limited
knowledge , subjects and even their hobbies .
Despite the aforementioned argument, I believe that children can gain more advantages
from learning at school . One significant factor is to learn and develop life skills.
Because school is a small society, so they have to how to solve difficult issues or
situations like making own decision, time management, building good relationship with
friends,... by themselves. These skills are very helpful when children become adults.
Furthermore, schoold will teach them about responsibility and cohesion. Through
lessons and practical situation, children can understand what responsibility and
cohesion are and why they are important. Therefore, they become good citizens which
help their country better and more flourish and more lover thier hometown.
In conclusion, while it is justifiable that schools are no longer unnecessary because
children can learn from internet and self - studying at home, I am convinced that
schools are the best educational places for children.
