COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this course is to make students acquainted with the basic macroeconomic
theory and application with a focus on market economies. We will examine the decision-
making of government, business, households, and banking in the national economy.
Economics is a framework for making choices. Your goal in this course should be to
understand this framework and to develop an ongoing interest in economic policy.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to accomplish each of the
following:

 The student will be able to read, understand, and critique articles on current
economic issues in news publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The
Economist, or New York Times.
 The students will be familiar with the framework and language of modern
macroeconomic theory.

TEXTBOOK
- Principles of Macroeconomics (Ninth Edition), (Cengage Unlimited) Gregory Mankiw
(required)

EXAMINATION
Two mid-term exams and a comprehensive final exam will be given in class during the
semester. I will post exam date/time in D2L and email exam date/time information.
Students are expected to check their email and D2L announcement regularly to know
exam date/time and take the exam on time.

MAKE-UP POLICY
Make-up exams may be given under extreme circumstances. You need to show an
official, written documentation to get that opportunity. Any student fails to follow this
policy will receive an automatic zero for the missed exam(s).

My office hours are M W 11:30-1:30 or by appointment.

First mid-term : 30%


Second mid-term : 30%
Final Exam : 40%

GRADING SCALE

Cutoffs for course grade will follow the following scale:

90 – 100 % :A
80 – 89 % :B
70 - 79 % :C
60 - 69 % :D
Less than 60 % :F
