The chart illustrates the number of sportsmen who played in four various sports- badminton, tennis,

basketball, rugby in a country of Europe over the period from 1985 to 2005. Overall, it is evident that the
number of rugby players significantly decreased, whereas the figure for the tennis experienced an upward
trend over the period. Notably, the popularity of the badminton and the basketball remained relatively
stable.
In 1985, the number of the rugby players was the highest at about 300, before experiencing a steady
decline to about 200 until 1995. Meanwhile, the figure for tennis was about 150 at the start of the period,
and reached the same point as the rugby as the tennis in 1995, before reaching a peak of about 230 in
2005. In contrast, the number of rugby players bottomed out at 50, the same as the figure for badminton.

The figures for the basketball and the badminton were stable and the least significant. The number of
basketball players were about 80, followed by the badminton which were about 50 over the period.
The graph demonstrates the proportion of the three categories of people who consumed the fruit and
vegetables according to daily recommendations in UK in 2002, 2006, and 2010. Overall, it is evident that
the figures for all of the categories experienced an upward trend. Notably, the percentage of women was
one of the dominating ones, while the children were the least over the period.
In 2002, the proportion of the women was the highest at 25%, followed by men which stood at 22%,
while the figures for the women stood at only 11%.
In 2006, three of the categories exhibited significant increase. The consumption among women reached a
peak of 32%. Similarly, the figures for men and children rose to 28% and 16% respectively.
The proportion of the three categories decreased in 2010. The percentage of the women fell to 27%,
followed by consumption of men that stood at 24%, while the figures for the children decreased to 14%.
TASK 1: The pie charts below show the percentage of students on the one adult education center taking a
various course offered in 1985 and this year.
The graphs compare the proportions of students attending on the different courses offered in 1985 and
this year. Overall, the percentage of students who chose a cookery increased, while the popularity of
modern languages and an art decreased. Notably, some of the courses like a music appreciation and a
local history are not actual in this year, they were substituted by a new direction called IT, whereas fitness
and dance did not show significant changes.
In 1985, the proportion of the modern languages students were approximately 24%, followed by the art
which were 17%. However, both of them experienced a downward trend falling to 17% and 15%
respectively. In contrast, the figure for cookery was about 14% in 1985, but then increased to 19% in this
year.
Some of the figures are not actual today like for the music appreciation and the local history, in 1985 the
percentages of them were about 8% and 15% respectively. This year, there is the new IT course which
attendance is about 27%. Whereas, the proportions of the fitness and dance stood at 15% in both years.
TASK 1: The table below shows the total population and the proportion of males and females aged 15
and aged 75 in the UK from 1911 to 2011.
The chart below demonstrates the number of residents in the UK and compares the percentages of two
genders aged 15 and aged 75 over the period from 1911 to 2011. Overall, it is evident that the population
in the UK significantly increased. Additionally, the percentage of young people decreased, while the
proportion of old people experienced a downward trend. Notably, the percentage of females aged 75 was
high in comparison with males, while the figures for the genders aged 15 were opposite.
In 1911, the population of the country was about 36 million, and experienced a rise by 10 million in each
interval. The percent of people aged was approximately 1,8%, before experiencing a steady falling by
0,6% at the end of the period. In contrast, the proportion of people aged 75 exhibited an upward trend
increasing from 0,23% in 1911 to 0,70% in 2011.
The number of both genders aged 15 remained relatively stable at around 330-350 thousand over the
period, but the number of males was slightly higher. The males aged 75 was about 34000 in 1911, and
increased a roughly by 6 times at the end of the period. Whereas, the number of female of the same age
was higher, and increased a roughly 5 times, being about 47 thousand in 1911.
