SIMPLE INTEREST
Interest and Definition of Interest
Interest is an attraction which inspire for saving. When a person of businessmen take any
amount for their requirement, they have to pay extra amount for using the money, this extra
money known as a Interest.
In other words, Interest = Amount Repaid - Principal
When the interest for the whole period is charged onlyReceived.

is called Simple Interest.
The total amount interest may be fixed at the time of borrowing the money or its

Importance of Interest
Every person associated with the interest directly or indirectly. For example, employee

Types of Interest

If the word compound is not mentioned speciallywith the word interest' it refers to simple
interest only. Simple interest is always calculated on original principal whether interest is paid
during the period of loan or not.
Principal or Capital
The money taken as loan is called Principal or Capital. It is denoted by P.
Time

The period for which the money is taken on loan, is called Time or Term. It is denoted by
T.
Rate of Interest
The rate at which the interest is charged on the principal is called Rate of Interest. It is
denoted by R. Generally it is expressed in terms of percentage per annum.
Amount
The sum of principal and the interest is called Amount. It is denoted by A.
